Re: 12v Winches... Good or Bad?
Well Petrey10, if decide to go with an electric winch, just make sure you get something with enough capacity, I believe you said 3,500lbs.
You'll see there's allot of PowerWinch winches out there, becouse they flooded the major marine retail stores. There not bad if don't overload it, the ratings are not conservative. They are easy to install because the switching solenoids are in the winch, so they don't need to be remotely mounted. It's been mentioned that there known for gear stripping, thats true (happened to me), but probably due to being to much over their single line pull rating (they don't over engineer).
I'm selling my PW T3200PO because it strains pulling up my Wellcraft 210 Costal on a roller trailer, but I'm probably 1,000 lbs over. Now I'm using a Rule T84R that will pull my boat up a tree.
Again, just make you get enough winch, if ya decide to go with PW, I'd say model 915 or an older T3200 might do. Also, if you get a PW, throw away the piece of crap back-up crank wrench. The metal is too soft, I had to use it once and stripped the square hole round in two cranks. Get a real crank wrench. Good luck.
