Well, I had the complete parts list ready for my 351W rebuild and the money in the bank ready to go. Along comes a late 80's early 90's ski nautic that the owner wrecked and wants to sell the engine, a 351W. $300 buys the entire thing, turn-key supposedly. So here's the issue, from what I recall, the inboards will all be counter-rotation. I have no problem installing the counter-rotation engine and buying a new counter-rotation SEI outdrive.
My current outdrive is a '76 pre-alpha (233) model and may or may not have issues shifting, but does need at the least a new water pump/impeller/shift shaft seal.
So do I spend $2500 to build a completely new engine and trust that the old outdrive is solid enough with a few minor maintenance items, or do I just go ahead and get the counter-rotation inboard engine ($300) and buy a new outdrive (1400+prop)?
