New canvas snaps are loose?

I just installed a couple snaps on my newly taylored bow cover.
My plier type setting tool came with 4 snaps so I experimented by putting them in the 4 corners of my cover, the snaps are loose, they will pop off with very little tesion, it's like one corner pops off before I can get the opposite side snaped.
The snaps that came with the pliers are definately not getting it.
Is there a specific style I should be looking for, something with a little more grab, heck the ones on my mooring cover are tough to snap, these ones I used today don't realy go together with that pronounced "snap" feel, they just generally feel very weak.
Has anyone else experienced weak or loose snaps.

Ayuh,... For All of 'em,... Check for Roundness,...
Sometimes you can "Adjust" them slightly with a pair of Plyers...

For the Sticky 1s,... Rub 'em with beeswax,...

The new 1s,... Do they look "Of Quality",..??

I went to the Twist-lock style on some of the more Stressed points on my top/ curtains...
Once ya get beyond the co$t of the cutting die,... They're Great...

As an upholsterer, there is one other thing you can try. It sounds like you are using the proper setting tool (looks like a C-clamp with vise grip handles). Simply adjust the nut on the bottom of the handle 2 turns inward. Since this tightens the mandrel bend inside the snap cap, it slightly alters the width of the cap. This will give you a little more 'snap' when placing the caps.

Start with a half turn at a time until you get the proper feel. If you over do it, simply cut the snap cap off with a pair of side cutters.

From what I have found when replacing them the secret is in the application. Experiment till you get the "feel" when applying them.

I'm with Bond-o, Rochford supply. You can get snap fasteners with "hard action" that hold better.
