I am installing a fuel/water seperator for my 98' merc 25, 2-stroke and was wondering do I put my primer bulb on the gas tank side or the engine side? Also, it's a 10 micron filter and will that allow the oil to flow freely with the gas, or will it filter the oil out of the gas? Thoughts??

Re: Advice Needed

Bulb has to be on the gas tank side so it pushes fuel through the filter, rather than pulling it through. I don't know about the oil question.

Wrong. Primer bulb goes between fuel/water separator and motor. Keeps the crap out of the bulb.

Re: Advice Needed

The 10 micron filter element will NOT affect the oil/gas mixture.

For what it is worth, I agree with seabob4's. That is the way mine had been for kicker and main motor for the past 20+ years.

Re: Advice Needed

Actually neither location is "wrong". Here's the deal - primer bulbs are better pushers than pullers. Sooooo...in theory that means they need to be located as close to the tank (fuel supply). But, as stated (correctly), if placed after the filter there's a good chance they'll not get contaminated as easily. With some boats (like mine) there is no way to get the primer bulb anywhere near the tank.

The 10 micron filter is the prefered filter with the government fuel we're getting.

Installed it, ran it, does great. I put the bulb on the engine side, and I think on the 4th pump it filled the line.....with a empty dry filter starting off. Thank for the help.
