Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...

The BIII is comparable with the BI as far as the hp it'll take...
The BIII is just much, Much more efficent with the hp pumped into it...
You may, or may not loose abit of top end... Probably Not...

How fast is your boat now?

And how much more power are you thinking of adding?

Is speed your main goal, Or better handling, ect?

Bravo One is performance, and then....

The next step up in performance is Bravo One XR. 600 HP AND over 65 MPH.

A Bravo One can be upgraded to a Bravo One XR.

This upgrade seems to be the smart move and runs from 3 - 4 thousand bucks. It includes what you need for high HP apps:

Machine work inside upper case for steel tower insert
Upgrade bearing package
H.D. Clutch & Shift Fork
H.D. Retainer Nut
XR Decal Kit
Mercruiser Net Forged XR Gear Set

You poke around performance boats and installers, and they are running XR's left and right.

Oh, Bravo 3 is a dual prop design and recommended for speeds up to 65 MPH. The water pick-ups on the Bravo One and the overall shape/design allow it to run over 100 MPH.

Since you wanna jump up in HP (over 400), you are probably going to leave 65 MPH and go beyond. That is Bravo One XR land.

Not sure what that means, but I'll "assume" you mean it doesn't plane as fast as you like. A B3 will help, provided you don't have something else wrong with your boat. The upper units of all the Bravos are the same, so they'll all handle the same horsepower.

Bond-o gave you good info, but I will disagree with him on one point. If your 454/B1 engine/drive combo are running properly now, you will lose about 2 mph on the top end with the B3.
