Looks great, nice match on the colour too. What brand of bimini is it? Might just have to get one myself! Also curious what height you got for it.

thanks

Re: FM165 with Bimini Top

Nice job. it looks exactly like mine.

Tip: Mine was made by Westland. Check that bow where it connects to the frame. Mine had a rivet on the bottom of the plastic connector. Dumb design cause it started scratching the grey paint on the top of my gunnels.

See this thread if yours has that rivet. I used a small section of foam pipe insulation which stays on the bottom of the frame all the time even when its up. I used a tiny bungee that comes 15 to a jar at walmart.

If yours has the rivet it will scratch it when trailering and the bimini moves a little left and right.

Also check out the straps in the camping section of Walmart for a few dollars each that I used to hold the frame in place when down.

There is a pic in the thread.

looks great nam one thing i noticed on your boat was the composite fishing decks and floor, my 2009 165 has the marine grade 3/4 plywood decking. is this something they changed in 2010 model or was this a upgrade. i saw your battery charger in the boat, when i got my boat last year i had cabelas put on a inline battery charger that goes right in your battery compartment its a pro sport 11 ,it charges both yuor main battrey and your trolling battery. all i do after a day of fishing is plug in a lead cord and shes set. it also keeps your battery conditioned and gives them longer life.

Thx Laker, what A MACHINE,,,,,,,,Don't really know about the composite but they do have this FOR 2010:
from Lowes Site> (Make clean-up quicker and easier than ever with our heavy-duty, vinyl floor coverings. These rugged textured-vinyl coverings replace the boat's standard carpet and are permanently affixed to ensure lasting durability and good looks.)
The inline battery charger is a great idea & I've been thinking about getting this upgrade. Just bought the handheld Remote, spare Motorguide Prop, nut & shear pin, 2 burgany Fenders & a Basspro Watersafe Travel Tite Boat Cover(C). It fits great & looks good in the blue.
I just ordered a Merc 48-73134A40 12P Prop, I'll keep the 14P that's on there for a spare,,,,,,I'm broke no $$$ left, BEANIES & WEENIES for a while:eek::D

Amazing how much your rig looks like mine. Same floors too. Lund offered a snap in rug over those floors for an option. But I don't like rugs on the floor of a fishing rig.

Tip: Go to Walmart and spend another $10 and get one of those small red plastic 1.5 or 2 gal gas tanks. Fill it and stow it in a locker. My Bother in law whose been boating for 40 years taught me this. It comes in handy when it's 7pm and your on fumes, you pull up to the gas pump and they are closed or out of gas. 1.5 gal's will get you back to your trailer from pretty much anywhere on most lakes. I've even used it late at night when trailering home and I couldn't find a station open. Saved the day to get me to the next gas station.

Just looked at your Photobuckets, fabulous looking Lund, and yes, they look like twins. I like your zip on Bimini Front Windows a lot, it was cold in the morning when me & my Son took it out Thurs , could of use those..;)
I like your 2 gal (ace in the hole) spare gas idea, I do have a little plastic gas container that I used for my Granddaughters Dune Buggy.;) I'll say it again, you have a great looking Lund.

Re: FM165 with Bimini Top

Thx, you have great taste in colors too :D

Here's a few more tips that I've learned the hard way. Since you are so complimentary :) to my boat . . .

If you want your rig to look like it does today, a few years from now . . . If your logo's are like mine, you won't realize until you scratch them up by just "touching" a dock. That they are not painted on. To save money they use "decals". These are $100 to 150 plus labor to replace.

Invest in two fenders bigger the better "at least" 21 inches long and 20 inches around. You only need two cause depending on what side of the dock is free you can swap them to the correct side, just before you pull up to the dock. I bought black ones online for $20 each.

Let the boat slide off your trailer and then leave the trailer in the water and run out and tie the boat up to the dock "yourself" before you park the vehicle. If you let "anyone" else tie it up for you they will scratch the crap out of it as they pull it along the sharp docks or tie it up where a bolt is sticking out of the side.

Teach your Son (if he's old enough) or Wife how to keep the boat off the dock with their foot as they pull it into position. Use a dock line tied to the back of the boat along with the one on the bow eye. Makes it easier to hold the back of the boat in as you pull boat along dock to tie it up. I try and pull up a few spaces if dock is long enough. This way others can launch while you park the car. Teach your wife to drive vehicle out to the parking area (doesn't have to make any turns or back up) she can just swing wide into a space in the lot. This way you can stay with boat.

Coming back in: I actually about 95% of the time always come in on the same side. Just so I don't scratch up both sides of the decals. This way I leave the fenders on the same side. if the dock is on the wrong side, I just swing around facing out when I tie up. I then swing the boat around as I drive it up to the trailer and shut it off just before the trailer and I pull it up a few feet by the bow line by jumping off the bow onto the trailer. Hook the crank strap on and crank it up. I don't like to power drive on because it ruins the ramps for everyone else (actually illegal at some ramps) as the prop washes the bottom away as they gun er up! Also, don't put the trailer in too deep. I back down until the ends of the bunks are about 6 inches under water and then you are using the bunks to guide the boat up. Most people drop the trailer to low and the boat floats around crooked even with the side bunks you have on there!

One last tip: If you ever take women or even for your kids . . . as soon as you have a few extra bucks invest in a small $50 porta potty to keep on board. Women love these. They can just wrap a towel around them and sit down no matter who or what boats are around. Teaches your kids not to pee in a cup and throw it into the lake too. Women can't hold it in as long as guys, especially if it's hot and you're all drinking liquids.

Now that you have the bimini "frame", the piece de resistance for women is available on Iboats and others for about $50. It hooks under the bimini when you need it for a changing room or over the porta potty. I'm sure if you put your mind to it you could even think of other uses for this swell accessory :D :)

check it out:
DSC05553.jpg

This accessory really allows passengers to relax. Most people hate small boats cause they drink and then there is no where to go to the bathroom! Many lakes are used for drinking water. I think porta pottys should be mandatory on small boats.

I cover my porta potty with one of the 5 grey bath towels I picked up at Walmart. They match the boat and are good to put over the seats when the suns hot. Most people don't even know that front seat in the bow is actually a porta potty under the towel. I even found a grey porta potty online to match the boat.

My forward casting deck is deeper than yours, but your rig is bigger so you could keep one pretty much anywhere in the boat.

You can see it "through the bottom of the windshield" in the pic below.
Click on the pic to enlarge it.
They grey towel under the wheel is not the porta potty. It's the cooler that I was covering out of the hot sun that day.

Re: FM165 with Bimini Top

thanks for the info lutenant, i found out the hard way about letting others docking my boat. igot the oversized boat fenders and tie up myself now. one thing i did to my fm165 is i added two more cleats around the windshield area, the two foward cleats lowe put on at the factory are to far foward on the front of the boat. it,s almost imposibal to tie up without hitting side of boat and scratching it up. the adding of the other to cleats solved this problem. she ties up nice in straight now. good idea on porta potty, gonna pick one up next week. oh by the way were pretty much neighbors, i live north of you in glens falls lake george area. i wrote a thread about stripper fishing the hudson, never been like to try it. do you fish for them, any info appreciated.do you ever get up this way to fish, lake george is a excelent fishery. just gota fish early spring and later in the fall , tough to fish in the summer with all the tourist, plus im not going to pay 30 to 40 dollars every time i want to launch my boat.

Re: FM165 with Bimini Top

Ya, my cleats were to far forward too. The Lund has what they call a sport track system which they sell accessories for that fit in a slot all along the rail.

I found this cleat style. They are not cheap something like $17 each, but they are well worth it. Stainless steel and you just pull up on the middle and hook the fender line with a knot in it. They just screw into the gunnels with two screws. Along with the sport track piece that I screwed them into it allows me to slide the cleat where ever I want. These cleats allow me to swap sides with the fenders in seconds at any height, where I put a lose knot.

Many times though since my boat is so small I also hang two red throw cushions over the side for when a jerk flys by and throws a big wake against the dock.

Here is a pic:
DSC05891.jpg

Here is a pic too for that other poster on how I came up with a way to keep the bimini frame from scratch my grey painted gunnels, that foam piece is on the bottom tube only and it stays on all the time and goes up when the frame opens. Also protects my plastic windows from marring against the frame when they are zipped in place.

Sorry to have hijacked this thread talking about local fishing spots . . . .

We are on LG pretty much several times a month. We usually stay around Plattsburgh for a couple of days and hit LG on the way back. The state launch in Ticonderoga is free and the state launch is also free on Champlain. They are only 5 minutes apart so sometime we stay in TI and hit LG one day and Champlain the next.

The launch for LG in TI is about 1 3/4 hrs fr Albany so I prefer to go on Champ. on a Fri and this leaves us Sat and Sun to catch another nice day. If not we hit LG in TI on Sun. We have to play the winds cause Champ or lower LG can kick up to 3 footers in a heart beat.

I troll with a downrigger from time to time once they go deep in LG. Around this time of year they are too easy to catch around the tributaries until the water warms up.

I've never fished for strippers on the Hudson even though I'm on it like once a week. To me there is no sport in it. They are heading North to spawn and it's like shooting fish in a barrel. I don't like the idea of just sitting in one spot all day hanging a herring over the side. Reminds me of when I was a kid and used a bobber from the shore.

But even though I'm only moving at 1 mph trolling for Lakers I could do that for 10 hours at a time. Sitting in 1 spot is boring to me. That's why I like "the hunt" for Bass on Champ or LG.

A friend of mine said I should try that restaurant on Glen Lake. Ever eaten there?

So that's our stomping grounds depending on the weather and the wind. From Champ to LG to launching south of Albany at one of the free ramps from Bethlehem down to Newburgh.

When the weekends are sunny, since my Wife loves boating as much as I do, she is usually with me. She goes bonkers trolling for hours on LG so I'd meet up with you when the weathers good for fishing, but not a great boating day.

I can also go during the week. I like that the best cause the boat traffic on LG is quiet.
I troll to the East of Dome island in 150 feet of water over that big deep trench that runs from Dome to Pilots Knob.

The strippers are first plentiful around Saugerties and every few days they have moved a little farther north. All the ramps and parking lots are jammed for those few weeks and there are like 200 boats on the river around the launches, so that's another reason stripper fishing is not that exciting to me.

here is a pic of the small Porta Potty I found. Sanipottie model 962. I see them on sale at West Marine from time to time for $59. You can find them for around $50. They come in Grey (Platinum) and Putty (Parchment). Search around cause some sites sell them for $155 (that's funny) Amazon gets around $73. It's real small at 2.8 gals, but it's great for a boat as it takes up very little room on board.

Hey Expedia. Love that Bimini you have. The side and front curtains is an awesome idea. What brand is that one?
