I purchased a 1971 Starcraft Islander 2 weeks ago and thought it should have its own thread. Right now I am working on installing the outdrive and hope to get her back in the water within 2 weeks. It has a 140 Mercruiser in it that has been rebuilt with a 4 barrel Holley carborator. Overall the boat is clean, sound and in great shape however, after I finish the outdrive install I plan to work on the paint.

Welcome Aboard x4 Mccurtis..
Just read your thread with your SC collection...cool stuff!
Have to ask..all these come from your area? I thought Florida had a bunch of SC's..but maybe you found the elephant burial grounds..

Hey CheapboatKev I have picked up all my boats in and around the Branson area. I really like your Holiday V it looks like you did a great job on it . How is that 120 Merc? My 68 hoilday needs a new engine and outdrive I thought about putting a 140 in it.

Thanks..I need to finish her up!
I have 2 boats and am getting grief..lol..4? man Id be slepping on the Islander..

The 120 moved her just fine for me..30 mph is fast enough..If I had to replace the motor, I'd go straight for a 140 OR get nutty with a inline 6 (165hp!)

My kids want me to get another boat I told them will see. They want either a Chieftain or a Supersport. I told them if the right Supersport came along I might' get it. Anyway I worked on the outdrive install today on the Islander and I think I am ahead of schdule. I think I will have it in the water for Mothers Day. My wife says she excited about taking it out.

Today was a bear it took over an hour to get the exhaust bellows hooked up on the outdrive but, its on and all together. The engine was also 3" out of alinement which took over an hour getting in and out of the boat and checking and rechecking but its done. Tomorrow I will fire her up.

Re: 1971 Starcraft Islander

Today was a good day. Got the tune-up done (plugs, points, condensor, rotor and distibutor cap. Also drained the old fuel out of the tanks, they were full, and cleaned them out. Tomorrow fresh fuel and fire her up. After she's warmed up to operating tempurature it will be time to change the oil, put in a new fuel filter, impellar and gear oil. Then it will be time for a final check over as we prepare for the big launch on Mother's Day.

The other plus today I picked up the motor for my Jupiter, a 1991 75 hp Mercury.

Re: 1971 Starcraft Islander

Had a little set back. Went to fire up the motor yesterday and gas came flooding out of the carb all over the engine. I was glad it did'nt fire-up. Working on rebuilding the carb should have it done tomorrow so we can still take her out for the first time on Mother's Day.

Re: 1971 Starcraft Islander

The canopy is custom. The carborator is not fixed yet. I got a rebuild kit from Oreilly's. Saturday when I went to start her up she fired right up but I had to shut her right down. Gas was spraying everywhere. The rebuild kit had the wrong jets in it so I was not able to adjust the flow of fuel. Oreilly's ordered the right jets they should come in tonight. So we did'nt get to go out on Mother's Day. I hope we wil get to take her out on Thursday.

Haven't taken the boat out yet because the weather has been bad all week. Thunder, lightning, hail - fun. Anyway a few more pictures to enjoy.

Re: 1971 Starcraft Islander

Very nice boat !!! I like the cabin, and the cover, I'm sure someone paid a good penny for that.. Very NICE !!!

by the way, 140's didn't have 4bbl carbs that I know of, someone must've used a 4bbl-2bbl adapter, I would be cautious of re-jetting..

I'd like to see a pic of the engine/carb, and a carb number to see what was used. I have a 4bbl Webber from a 3.7L 470/170/190 Inline 4 that I have tried but I need to make a mounting point for an air diverter on my adapter plate, and if that's whats on there jetting on that would still be a little much for the 140.

Re: 1971 Starcraft Islander

Realy like your boat

Thanks! the 4th of July went great...right up to the very end...then wham...FULL STOP....and by stop I mean we went foreward when the engine stopped...Apparently broke the timing belt...it happened on our last go round for the weekend...and far away from our ramp..got a tow and got a ride to the truck and picked up the boat...Rotor is not turning while being cranked...so hopefully thats the only issue.
But otherwise what a great weekend. Can't wait for the next one...BTW like yours as well..especially the top...would like that style...copied your pics for the future...Thanks
