This is my first post and I want to start by thanking all of the members of this forum for the plethora of information and great pictures detailing all of your restorations. I recently got my hands on what I believe to be a 1965 Jet Star. I came to this forum to get ideas and information on getting her back in the water.

My plans for her are definitely NOT to perform a full scale restoration like many of you have completed. Not that I don?t think she is worth it. I just want to get out on the water as soon as possible and hopefully get more into a restoration over the winter. I am in Northern Illinois and winters can be long and boring.

Anyhow, the reason for my post is not so much to ask a question but more for your enjoyment. After reading through many of the threads one thing has become very clear. The members of this forum have an absolutely INSATIABLE appetite for pictures of old Starcrafts.

So I dusted off the old digital camera and for your enjoyment have attached several photographs of my new old boat. (Sorry for the long post. Its my first post and didn?t want to just throw some photos out there with no explanation.)

Ahhhh yes the blue. I have to admit that the blue color was one of my favorite traits of the boat. Although after seeing some of the pictures of the boats on here I am thinking that it might look beter with a white bottom and just the upper deck area in blue. Something to ponder for later on. She is staying all blue for now. You would be surprised how good the paint is on her. You can see a little bit of haze on the paint but I took some rubbing compound to a few test spots and the shine and depth of the color came right back. Thats actually first on my list, get her all polished up. I dont think I will be able to get her done for at least a couple more weeks (going on vacation) but when I do I will post some more pictures.

Thanks SnowHunter. Thats too funny.....I had already checked out your thread on your Sea Ray and found that boat to be "puuuurty" as well.....Probably because the colors are so similar.

Simply beautiful! Great color...lovely lines...and it looks to be in incredible shape. How's the deck...solid? What plans DO you have to get her on the water?

Good luck...and have fun.

Awesome boat. Dont look like you need much to get out on the water. I have the same boat and also a 40 hp johnson. Pushes it real well. Amazing how well your paint and all the hardware still looks. All my cleats were pitted and I could'nt really reuse anything. But yours still looks great!

One of the problems is, white looks so good. It's hard to resist and we lose a lot of the classic colors because of it.I'm not blaming anyone, I'll probably go white and.....I dunno Royal blue. Partly because it looks so damn good, and I love dark blue.

Part of me want to paint my boat the original colors, Avocado. I'm not a big green guy though. I think it looks great on other boats, maybe not on mine. I don't think I'm that courageous though. Every time I tell someone "Avocado" they wrinkle their nose up at me. We'll see, paint is a long way off yet.

That's a nice picture NB, I can see why it's your favorite. All the more reason to polish that blue boat up Manny! I vote for keeping the Robin's Egg Blue.

Where is that picture taken, Lake Michigan (Sleeping Bear Dunes) or Washington State?

Thanks for the compliment! The deck is actually very solid. After seeing what has been hidden under some of the other decks I think I am going to at the very least pull up the plywood and re assess the situation then. Assuming there isn't anything too nasty down there I will decide on a covering (paint? carpet? not quite sure yet)

Here is what I plan on doing this spring and hopefully not too far into summer:

1) deep cleaning and very thorough polish of all paint and chrome/exposed aluminum

2)choose and install a floor covering

3)re-upholster (less likely) or buy new (more likely) seats and install them. I have seen the "jet" seating arrangement (two rows of seats) but for now I think I like the back to back seating. I like the fact that the seats collapse and can be used as two benches. If I'm anchored up and want to get some fishing in its nice to know that the Mrs. can lay out and sun bathe and as I'm sure many of you know, the happier she is, the longer I get to fish ;)

4)Figure out what I am going to do for propulsion. The 40 that came on the boat and that you see on the pictures looks like it was just slapped on there and was never used on this boat. The controls are all wrong and all of the wires were cut. I have no idea as to its condition and so far everything I can gather on this site regarding this particular 40 (electramatic) tells me to run and run fast from this motor. I actually tested the forward and reverse clutch coils using instructions on this site and they check out fine and the motor seems to have good compression (totally non technical compression test, ie. finger in spark plug hole as engine is cranked) so there is still a small possibility that I might try and get this motor running. I'll be honest, I am not new to tinkering and have alot of experience rebuilding car/motorcycle/small engines but I just want to get this boat on the water already! Like yesterday! With every passing day it seems like I might be better served to bite the bullet and drop the money on a newer or maybe even brand new outboard for this project. I guess I will wait and see how long the other stuff takes and re assess the situation then.

5) other small things like trailer maintenance, a stereo, re wiring the stern and bow lights, battery, etc.

Hey! I looked through the brochures in the sticky and didn't see that picture! Are you holding out on us????? She sure does look pretty in blue. Those brochures are an invaluable tool for all of us trying to get a feel for what our boats looked like new and what we are trying to get them to look like again. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.

Starcrafter,
That is EXACTLY the paint scheme I was talking about! You and Northbeach are going to drive me crazy! Both of your pictures look so good! How am I ever going to decide between solid blue and two tone now?

BTW that matching baby blue fender on your trailer looks sweeeet. I may have to copy that look on mine. What is the difference between the Nassau and the Jet Star? I mean, that looks exactly like my boat with a white bottom!
