Hi,
Photos to come later this week.
1) Well I got a good deal a few weeks ago on a 87 Bayliner Capri 1900. I paid $500.00 for the boat, trailer with a Force 125 OB. The first thing I needed to do was get the engine running, less that 30 bucks for the new head gasket and some great advise in the Force forum and she is up and running in a tub test /w 125 on all 4 Cylinders, it should go up once it is run on the lake with a full de-carb. The lower unit is fine and was rebuilt in 08, I did replace the impeller and lower unit oil, checked the seals etc. I did have to buy a Heli Coil kit because one of the bolt holes was stipped so that was another $27 to get the head sealed good. So $57.00 and my labor to get the engine running again.
2) Well the people that owned before me just let it sit in the back yard under a tree for 2 seasons un covered even though I got the transom cover, factory bimini and bow cover along with a boat cover, go figure. The external covers were very dirty so I cleaned them up as best I could so I could get them streched and snapped back on. I took out all the cushions and called around to see if I could find a decent price for a pro to recover, if this was a much newer boat I would probably have dropped some cash into a pro recover but I enjoy doing things myself anyway and with the help of this forum I should do fine. I did check into copycat and they never responded to my request for a quote.
3) I was stupid and did not track my progress of this resto with photos from the beginning but as many know when it comes to seat covering replacement you pretty much have to salvage what you can of the rotted wood to get a good pattern and shoot for the moon, I was happy to find that most of the wood was not so bad but did need to be replaced. I went with 1/2 Ply and painted it with an epoxy based paint "Garage Floor Paint" 3 Coats all around which I have used in the past on a 89 Sunbird for the floor, this stuff is $25 a gallon and does a really good job at sealing the wood, I did sell my sunbird the same season so I guess I will know how good my cheapness holds up.
4) Well now that the engine is running it's time to replace the vinyl on the bow cushions, the back seats and the back rest, these are the easiest to do so I will start replacing the side rail vinyl for the sides and the bow along with the center panels after I get the easy vinyl covering done. I do not sew nor do I have a sewing machine so it has been a hiding of the pleats game, but all in all they look fine "Photos Soon"
5) I had to replace the back port jump seat wood where the speakers is installed and also a 14 x 10 piece of wood for the floor, it looks like over time the element had craked the glass and a portion of the wood in the area was soggy, I checked the foam and shop vacced it over a few days to dry it out, under this area is all glass so the was no rot any further than where I cut, I used the same paint as above and I added foam to seal the area and used the foam to secure the wood in place.
I purchased all my vinyl at Joanne's here in GA and it cost me about $60.00 US for the marine vinyl, it seems a little bit thinner than the factory vinyl but it has good backing and the good thing is I did not have to replace any of the foam which is a huge money saver. The most expensive part so far has been the air stapler and the stainles steel staples about $91.00 for 5 thousand staples and the chepest staple gun I could find locally that would shoot 3/8 stainless stell staples.
I bought 2 back to back seats from ebay from a 1989 bayliner capri, I did this only because the new ones in a less expensive price range are not very comfortable and the recovering of mine I am not interested in taking on this season, so for what I would have paid for 2 new ones I paid for a very good set of original Bayliner back to back seats. The seats were a good deal but the shipping is killer on ebay as usual. I also have my origial seats that I can probably sell to make a little back on what I put out on these.
Pics of Seats/ I am not too fond of the pink bayliner put in their patterns, oh well it's a seat right?
