This old motor brought us 26 miles from out in the gulf to shore when our main engine went out so I can get rid of it! I changed points but have no spark at all. Should the coil be the problem and is there a way to test it? Moter is a '79 2-stroke. Also what oil/gas ratio should be used with premium gas. First time user and enjoy the forums!

Did you even try looking to see if any of your questions had been previously answered?:(

The 1st thing to try on any 2 cycle with no spark is a fresh spark plug. Even if that doesn't cure the problem you will have a known good plug in it for future testing. (short of a factory defect which I haven't seen in decades)

How to test a coil:

Premium gas is not needed.

Without a model # that's about all anyone is going to be able to tell you for sure.

Thanks! Your right as I continued to read other posts regarding this I found others with same or similar issues! However I did replace the points, will install a new coil as I leave the office and tried two diff plusgs bothe of which were however , used. Since its a '79 yr model and motor/model 14035e I saw on this site where a there were issues with the diode? and or bad circut boards? Am i just spending on a lost cause? THANKS

swampking;---I did replace the points said:
If you're motor has points then the worrying posts concerning diode and circuit board is not applicable to your motor. The references only apply to the models that used the infamous Tecumseh electronic ignition system. If yours has points then it is a magneto ignition system that can be repaired by the average home mechanic. Count yourself among the fortunate!

If you foraged the board extensively then you should have encountered <http://home.earthlink.net/~brixent/> as 'mrcrabs' and I both post it at least once a week as the best site for identifying Eskas along with basic specs. It is also a great place to buy Eska parts and the owner seems particularly helpful IME.
According to the table on the site the Eska 14035e is a 1981 year model that uses a 50/1 fuel/oil mix. Frankly I'd err on the side of caution with a 32/1 mix but then I'm quite conservative in many areas and I may be more aware than most just how delicate is the balance between adequate lubrication and excess heat loads of an air-cooled 2 stroke. Eska recommended the use of TCW-3 water-cooled outboard oil.

Please see the thread '5hp Wards Sea King made by Clinton' below for my comments on the practical definition of 'air-cooled' as it applies to the outboards fitting that description

My pride wont let me call myself an idiot but you can! Maybe I dont have the new coil/condenser wired correctly? Could someone give me a step-by-step? I know I have (from coil) a short blk wire that hooks under the condenser mount and a longer that connects over to the points post, a green wire that hooks there as well and then the black condenser wire goes there too right? HELP I NEED A SPARK IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!

Re: 5 hp eska no spark

Thanks for the diagram, lots of very good info. I now have a very very weak spark when holding the plug lead very close to the motor however still no spark when attached to the plug. I did ground the plug and have rechecked all the wires and points and plug gap. Will keep trying not ready to convert motor to anchor!

NO SPARK RESOLVED!!! Thanks especially to mrcrabs and tom@buzzardbuff.. New points, condenser, coil, plug, even when points are new they come with protective coating to prevent "shelf corrosion" , Cleaned them then sanded what I thought to be light green paint which was corossion on stator and flywheel. Havent started it yet but at least its SPARKING!!!

A little bit of what sounds like pre-detonation "knock" but runs good!
