replace Bravo III

I need to get a replacement for my Bravo III outdrive. It was stolen and my insurance did not cover it. I recently moved away from where I kept my boat and would like to replace it myself. My boat is a 1996 Baha Cruiser Mach 1 with a 454 Mercruiser. What are my options? Can I replace it with a less expensive outdrive? Where is a good source to find one?

A Mercruiser Bravo 1 and Bravo 2 are the same and will bolt on directly in the B3s place. They aren't that much cheaper, though. There is no less expensive, aftermarket equivalent, sorry.

just out of curiosity how come ins didnt cover it??? i might have to change my coverage to make sure it would be covered if the same thing happened to me.

hover, I can probably tell you, without even knowing the story! (10 years an an insurance adjuster). It's either he doesn't actually have a boat policy and it's "covered" under his homeowner's policy. And the boat wasn't where it was supposed to be, so therefore it wasn't covered. Or it was under the amount of his deductible.
Or, he does have a boat policy, but the loss didn't happen as he stated or the boat was out of it's coverage area at the time.
Am I close della?

Rest assured, if you have an actual boat policy, and are operating or storing it within the area defined by the policy, it will be covered.

Theft insurance on a boat is a joke with most marine policies, you really got to read the coverage over thouroughly and ask questions beforehand on what is and is not covered and under what circumstances. The boat has to be hooked up to the tow vehicle, in the water or in a fenced compund or locked garage for it to cover. The minute you unhook from the tow vehicle the exclusion clause takes effect. At least thats what I read in the fine print on a lot of policies. Leave it in your backyard and you're on your own. Can you imagine if car policies were worded that way?

Fossil, then you guys have TERRIBLE policies. A true boat policy doesn't have that exclusion. You are talking about homeowner's policies that you are trying to have the boat covered under. Yet another reason to have a REAL BOAT policy.

i do have insurance 500 ded and it is stored in a fenced in storage lot.

Have a look on EBAY. There are SEVERAL reputable dealers on there that are always selling new manufacture and new "old-stock" Bravo drives on an ongoing basis.

I don't know if I would buy one from an individual because you'll want a warranty.

I see them all the time for anywhere from $3000 up.

I also see props there for $300+. (a couple of years ago I bought a new set of 26p props for $600)

There's always several sets of 24p props for sale there......(always cheaper in winter)

My boat was out of the water and I thought my home owners covered it. When I placed my claim into Travelers they rejected it because under my insurance they only covered up to 25 feet. I canceled my boat coverage after I stopped using it. Since it was out of the water I thought my home owners was covering it. The only one I can blame is myself. Lesson learned.

Good luck with replacing the drive. They are indeed pricey.
