New trailer today

I bought a new pontoon about 3 weeks ago.. I wanted one of the crank up style trailers.. Well I got it today.. It is a Haul Rite.. Its a very nice trailer but I dont think it will haul my boat very well.. I left my boat at the local marina to go pick this up.. When comeing down the road I notice that the boat was rocking side to side.. I stopped and could almost push the side of the boat down enough that the pontoon would touch the ground.. I got to looking for the weight cap. on the trailer and it show 1600lbs max My boat with no motor, fuel and gear weights 2000 lbs.. I have no idea what to do.. I tried call the dealership and they were already closed..

I guess the first thing I would do is call the dealer (when they open) and tell them what is going on. There is a chance that they will assist you with you situation. Try to come up with a "suggestion" (trade trailer for another, different springs, etc.) to solve the problem and see how it goes.

I personally can't stand center trailers for pontoons. My dad just bought a 21 ft pontoon for his lake place and I had the joy of hauling it for him. Even a properly sized trailer of that type is unstable on corners and in the wind.

It sounds like you have 2 issues:
1) The trailer capacity is too low
2) The trailer is set up for a boat with shorter pontoons (which is why yours are so close to the road)

If the dealer sold you the pontoon and the boat, then they are clearly responsible for the underrated trailer. If you bought the trailer seperately without specifying the carrying capacity then you may have an issue.

I bought the boat and trailer from the same dealer.. They didnt have the trailer in stock and said that they would have to order it.. They done the ordering.. You would think that they would have known that it was to lite of a trailer for the boat that I bought from them.. The reason for me wanting this style of trail is so that I can store the boat in my building for the winter.. As far a towing it to the lake I only live 2 miles from it.. I dont ever go any farther than that.. I did talk to the dealer this morning.. They told me to go ahead and use it and that during the off season I could bring it back and they would send it back to the factory and have another axel put under it... I explained that it was to dangerous and I could end up dragging a hole in 1 of the toons..

This boat deal has been screwed up from the get go.. They sold me a 2008 Merc engine as a 2010.. They told me that it would have a 7 year warranty and now it only 5 cause the motor is a carbed 2 stroke.. Also I just found out that the warranty was a extended warranty that I purchased and they slipped that price into the price of the boat... I am about to talk to my to lawyer and get this stuff straightened up...

Before calling the lawyer on the boat stuff, get the trailer issue fixed first. Bottom line, they spec'ed the wrong trailer. They need to correct that first. You may have to pay more to get the right trailer since it will be a heavier duty unit, but do that first. Then go after all the other wrongdoings. Definitely point out the weight capacity issue and have them make it right.

I sure wouldn't use the existing trailer at all. I can't belive they would suggest that, since you are clearly over the weight limit. A tire blowout on a single axle scissor trailer is much worse than a blowout on a bunk type trailer.

I shouldnt have to pay more for a heavier trailer.. When the boat was purchase I told them that I wanted that style of trailer.. They should have factored that cost into the total purchase price of the boat package.. Seem they are trying to skemp on the trailer and saveing thereself some $$$..

Holy schneikes. Sounds like you've been doing business with an unscrupulous dealer. However, a couple of things are bugging me. First, how and when did you find out they represented a 2008 2 stroke as a 2010 4 stroke? Seems like that glaring discrepancy should have been spotted and addressed at signing time. Does the paperwork indicate 2010 4 stroke? Second, did you and the dealer not work together while choosing the trailer to insure it was appropriate for the boat? Again, what does the paperwork with your signature indicate? This sounds like a very bad situation that promises to get a whole lot worse. I think before I did anything else I would contact some kind of expert. You should probably stop using the rig altogether until you get this resolved, because the longer you continue to use it the shorter the leg you're standing on grows, so to speak. Many on here will tell you exactly what they think you should do, and I'm no exception of course, but based on what you've said you really need to contact an attorney now.

She never told me that the motor was a 4 stroke.. She did tell me that the motor was a 2010 90 hp 2 stroke.. That was fine with me... She didnt tell me that the motor was 2008.. I have it in writeing that the motor is a 2010 90 hp 2 stroke.. The tags on the motor say 2008.. The way that I noticed that it was a 2008 instead of a 2010 was.. Okay, I only mentioned 4 stroke vs 2 stroke because you made specific reference to the engine being a 2 stroke carbed model with regard to the warranty. The important thing is the paperwork (with your signature I assume) indicates it's a 2010 model. That fact is in your favor. You're correct when you say the dealership should have know which trailer was appropriate, but they've shown themselves to be at best incompetent and at worst crooked, so you clearly can't count on them to automatically do the right thing. I guess what I'm saying is, examined in its entirety this situation appears to warrant the services of your attorney. Sounds to me like you've been cheated.

I think if it was me I'd take the whole rig back and drop it off in their parking lot...while someone stands outside their lot on the road video-taping you doing that. Make sure the video has some way to reference the date. At this point I don't think I'd even consider giving them a chance to correct it. You got hosed on the motor...that's a $1500 poke you took at minimum. They got you a trailer that's not heavy enough for your boat. I wouldn't be very comfortable in thinking that they'll correct this mess.

You got hosed on the motor...that's a $1500 poke you took at minimum. They got you a trailer that's not heavy enough for your boat. I wouldn't be very comfortable in thinking that they'll correct this mess.

I concur. I have no way of knowing how big a hit you took, but not only did you get cheated on the motor, you were duped into paying for a warranty that was supposed to be included. Now they're trying to dump an inadequate trailer on you after charging you for one that is suitable for the boat.

Run this by your attorney first, but after going back through the thread I'm even more convinced that you need to have an independent and unbiased expert go through the entire rig and verify exactly what you bought, then go from there. That way you'll have the complete facts regarding what they delivered versus what they said they would deliver. Without that knowledge any advice offered is not well informed (mine included). But, whatever you decide don't use the rig until you know how you want to proceed. Otherwise, the dealer can ask why you continued to use it if you knew it was wrong. And, if you have an accident while towing that boat on an inadequate trailer guess where the fingers will point? Just trying to look out for a fellow iboater. Sorry this is happening to you.

That would make most folks call it a 2009. My dads 2007 pontoon came with a motor with a 2006 manufacture date, since there is a lag between when they are made and when the boat guys get ahold of them.

Kind of like my 2009 ram being made in dec 2008

Here is a copy of the purchase order.. I have blackend out some of my personal info along with the dealer info..

As you can see she put on the purchase order that it was a 2010 motor.. Check out the serial numbers and then look at the other pics I post of the tags on the engine.. I have talked to her about this and she told me that Mercury is now putting the year of the as to when it is sold.. Not the year it was made...

Just got off the phone with them and was told that I could get a 475.00 set of axels to go on the trailer.. I told her that I wasnt going to pay for another set of axels cause the trailer should have been the right one to begin with...
