ditto.....I wouldnt use OIL though...could harm the rubber...use the soap (dawn/ajax) it will wash out in 2 seconds first start......and is super lubey...use it 100% liquid soap...dont add any water....
the impeller is supposed to rub the inside of the housing......that seals it....and helps make the suction...the reason they go bad is that they lose thier flex and dont bounce back (see the old one is still bent up after you took it out)
So what if he put the impeller blades in the wrong way.... wouldn't they just correct themselves? Isn't there enough room in the pump housing to allow for that?

Impellers are typically molded from Buna N or Neoprene, both of which have excellent resistance to oil, greases and other hydrocarbon compounds. Very little these days is made from natural rubber.
