Ky Jelly works well with rubber, and is eco/friendly......:D
I lol'ed. A friend once told me that grease helps to bring the rubber "to life". For example. Take an older vacuum hose that has started to get a little bit hard. Rub the grease in it. And see how long it takes to loosen it up a little.

Not knowing what your impeller is made of I would never use any oil. Our diesel impeller instructions indicate to never use oil based products as this will deteriorate it faster. One of the biggest problems the boats in the Gulf cleaning up the oil spill is they are eating through impellers due to oil. Granted this is a large amount of oil passing impeller. I am curious about how oil would effect other impellers too.

The oil (or any other substance) is there for a few seconds of run time at best. It gets flush by loads of water very quickly.

Unless you change the impeller and then store the motor - then what?

Why not just avoid the petroleum based lubricant?
