Finally getting back to this boat. The weather has been great the last couple of weekends and the girlfriend and I have been enjoying the non drydocked boat. Lake Champlain is HUGE!!

Anyway I plan on pulling the block from the Glastron in the next few days. Weather the block is good or not it will need to go to the machine shop. My question is weather or not I should un bolt the engine mounts from the bilge rails or should I leave the mounts and unbolt the engine from the mounts? I know alot of people pull them with the mounts so they don't have to do an engine alignment. The FSM also states this. What do you think? how hard is it to do an alignment? I mean ive read the procedure and I can either purchase the tool or create one (have a lathe at work and plenty of material) but if its a major PIA and I can avoid it then why not?

Thoughts?

Just to update this thread Im working on the engine first for this boat. There is another thread about building up the GM 250 in the inboard/outboard forum. Once the machine shop is on their way to working on the block I will get back to the hull.

I think im going to start with cleaning out the bilge and taking a close look at the stringers/transom. Since the engine is pulled there is lots of room to look and probe. I haven't taken and core samples yet but I plan on it. Ive done an extensive tap test with a soft and hard small rubber mallet and so far it seems "ok". But thats not conclusive..

Thanks for the update. My 1970 Glastron V-153 was only four years old when I got it but the floor and stringers were rotten. The transom was solid. Good luck!

Wow! 4 years old and the stringers and floor were that bad? Was it left outside during the winter uncovered?

Yes, it was a ski-tow boat at a local water park and badly abused. Had holes in the sides and bottom of the hull also. I got it cheap which was good since I was poor!
