I had a '77 Merc 1500, but I blew it up. The new motor is a '93 Merc 135HPV6. The '93 is a much better motor, although it is 100# + heavier.

I have a 1969 7.5 Mercury . . . Just use it for the dinghy, but it brings back memories, as my family had a couple of these vintage Merc's when I was a kid.

Last year I drove a couple of hours to buy it from a guy who thought it was too powerful for his boat. Not quite sure about that, I think it was more due to the fact that it needed a couple of new oil seals and a new wiring harness, and I was able to take care of those things myself.

IMG_3532web.jpg The 2 oldies I currently run "daily" are a '53 Evinrude Big Twin and an '84 Evinrude 9.9. The '53 gets the most stares, but of course the boat is also of that vintage and the mahogany gleams like glass in the sun.

The one that really gets stares, though, is the 1919 Rowboat Motor, that sounds like no outboard you've ever heard before.

The other 60 rarely get out of the boathouse...

I have a 1985 Mariner 9.9. I run her hard all over VA- In true fresh water, brackish, and pure saltwater. Only had 2 breakdowns... both because I was an idiot and put the Diaphragm on backwards. Thats at all speeds- trolling, to WOT. She is a BEAST.

I love seeing these old motors wish they made them like they use to even though I'm currently replacing a piston in mine I opened it up and the quality is outstanding the 2002 I'm working on g is so cheap its like walking on eggshells to not snap all the plastic and cheap bolts no brand bashing so don't ask its a good motor but not like the oldys there mad for my great grandchildren

1981 Jonhson 9.9 hp bought new. damaged the LU last season but still usable. This motor has never been touched by a mecanic' screwdriver. New plugs and LU oil il all she ever got. Runs as smooth as a 4 cycle. I can lower rpm to a crawl. Love it.

(what's wrong with new Iboat forum software ? or is it me ?)

I also have an old Merc screamer. Love it. It's a 1973 1150. Runs my old boat at 40 mph (gps) @ 5300 rpm. I get all sorts of stares when I take it out to play with the newer wake boats and such. Some of them even turn their blaring music down to listen to the Merc's sweet (but awfully loud) tunes. Btw, did I mention that I love that old Merc?

I have a 1972 Johnson 6hp that runs great and starts 1st pull and a 1997 Mercury 30 hp(made in USA) that also starts right up every time and looks almost new.

My oldest is this 1962 Evinrude 5.5hp fisherman that I completely restored. I love how quiet these things are. I busted the throttle gear though.....broke one of the teeth off somehow. I have been fishing around for a super cheap parts motor, but even if I fix it, its almost too pretty to use....plus I dont have a boat small enough for it anymore. I have actually thought of removing all the fuel and oils etc from it, and encase it in polycarbonate and make it into a bar table.
