Port side remote controls?

I'm needing a concealed port side mounted remote control for an '88 Johnson 90 VRO. I've searched everywhere and I only come up with the starboard mounted version of what I'm looking for, which is OMC part number 17364 (key switch is mounted in the console).

This is for my pontoon console which currently has the control (for mercury) mounted on the right side (basically like a port side mount). Is there such an item for my engine setup? Can the
17364 one be converted? I know I could use the starboard version and turn it 180 degrees, but then forward would be reverse etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm thinking the 173644 can be mounted on the other side by swapping the handle and mounting flange to the opposite side. But I could be mistaken. Check it out though........

Can't seem to find much info on 173644. The only thing I can find is that the only difference is one has a trim switch and one does not. I have found 5006561 which shows it port or starboard side, but it states it is for 1996 and up. I have an '88 motor. Confused

The accessories catalog says 173644 has trim switch, 173643 does not have trim switch. It makes no mention of which side it goes on. I still say it will work on either side, according to which side you put the handle on. But I can't prove that because I don't have one to look at.

OR.....by simply flipping it top to bottom (not fore/aft), and installing the handle in correct position. This method is very common also.

Thought about that, but given the main workings of the remote control is very long, it will not flip over because there is not enough room in the console.

The mounting flange on 173644 is cast into the housing, so the handle won't swap around.

Exactly! I was trying of a way to say that. What are my options for a controller or am I going to have to rig a unit to mount on the right side of the boat?

The handle will easily swap around on the standard issue surface mount Johnrude controller, but for internal mount, you may have to go aftermarket. I know some of the Morse/Teleflex units have a fair bit of flexibility to them.
