Hi.. I'm ready to start my laid up Mercruiser but first I am wondering what to do about the fuel system since the tank was drianed and it's bone dry all the way to the carbs? Is it as simple as putting gas in the tank, ingnition on and pump the throttle till the carbs start spurting? Or do I need to manually fill the lines and filters? Advice appreciated.

And, can you tell me what type of carb I have in case I need to rebuild/service it. pic below. I think it is a Rochester 4bbl but not sure. Thanks, Duke.

:welcome: to iboats

Put fuel in the tank and the fuel water separator filter. Crank it over for 20 seconds and don't pump the throttle. Figuring you have a mechanical fuel so it will take a bit to bring the fuel up. Let it set a minute then pump it a few times and crank again. Repeat the pump and crank until she fires up.

To do it a bit faster, you could pour a couple ounces of fuel down the throat of the carb then crank it over. You must use CAUTION with this method to use very little gas at a time and before cranking take the gas away from anywhere near the engine.

So far as what carb you have it can be one of three. Merc, Weber or Rochester and can be either a 2 or 4 barrel. If you can provide the engine serial number we could be a bit more specific.

If you engine has been laid up a long time, suggest pulling the spark plugs and put a squirt of oil in each cylinder. Unplug the distributer and crank it over a bit to get the oil circulating. Then put the plugs back in and fire it up

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... AllDodge has ya covered, That's Good Solid advice,....
Bein' a '92, if it's a 4 barrel carb, 'n the original, it oughta be the Merc/ Weber/ Edlebrock/ Carter AFB clone carb,....
Probably the 9600/ 1409 model,...

Here's the serial # info:

And thanks for the other advice which has been done. I cranked it by hand, then with the starter, after letting the "squirted" oil sit overnight. All good so far. If it fires up tomorrow I will be surprised and very happy. Cheers, Duke.
