I need a timing cover and gasket set for my '88 260hp 5.7 (OB733876). The "marine" version is ridiculous over $100 just for the cover. What's the auto equivalent for my engine? i.e. 1985 Suburban. Or what range of years can I use to look up replacement parts?

1988 truck K motor - both the industrial motors (marine motors, genset motors, etc) and the truck motors came off the same assembly line at the Tonawanda plant

any Generation 1 SBC timing cover will work, even the $9 chrome summit racing timing cover

I just used that application but the timing cover looks different. The one on my engine is the old, regular style SBC cover.

You can pick one up at all kinds of places. As mentioned, the timing covers are the same from 55 to 95. Check ebay and similar sites.

The only difference between various covers will be the location of the timing tab.

some of the timing covers have little ears to help with the location of the gasket as well.

I looked up the K model truck through Napa Prolink and the photo was a black molded cover with some sort of plug near the crank seal. I just went with a $30 cast aluminum cover off the auction site.
