Gas filler vent kinked

As I was working under the dash of my recently acquired '88 Chapparal bat, I noticed the fuel vent hose was kinked. Other than perhaps causing a problem filling the fuel tank, would or could this cause any other performance problems?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... I guess is matters how tightly it's kinked,....

If the vent ain't Clear, the motor can't draw fuel, especially at higher speeds/ fuel usage,...

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

The vent line runs under the dash?? Are you sure you're not looking at the speedometer tube?

Yeah ^^^ exactly what I was thinking... or maybe it's the back cable tube for a rotary helm.

No. This is definitely the filler vent hose. It runs parallel up beside the main filler pipe and out to the little chrome vent on the outside of the boat.

Make it a little longer and add a loop in the line that raises above the vent outlet. This will keep water from backing into fuel tank from vent line. Without the loop any water splashed into vent will go directly into fuel tank.

Appreciate the tip. Actually, the hose already has a loop (for the very reasons you state I imagine) and it ws at the top and bottom of that loop where the kink(s) were. I put a hose clamp around each "kink" to open them up. Hopefully I won't have any more problems. Thanks

How old is the line? I have a boat the same year with '87 date codes on my hoses. Currently replacing them.

I sure would together with all the other fuel hoses especially if you can only get E10 gasohol. In 1988 the hoses they used were not made to resist E10 gas and they will deteriorate from inside.
