shift shaft alpha one [intermediate]

the problem is that the upper and intermediate shift shafts barely couple together. How do i remove the intermediate shift shaft [the one with the cotter pin] so i can check to see if it is straight. i will also split the unit to insure that the lower shaft has a washer on it.

Ayuh,.... Odds are 1000:1 that the washer is Missin',......

+ on what Bond-o says. I am sure you will find the washer missing. You will need to split the halves either way - to check for the washer or to remove the intermediate shaft.

bondo and fishermark were right on. split unit and sure enough the washer is missing. must have happened at the last impeller replacement. if i order one it will take a week for del. does anyone know the hole size and thickness of ss washer. perhaps Lowes will have one. thanks

any SS washer the width of the shift shaft bushing and the ID of the splined shaft will do.

i want to thank you all for your professional feed back. johnjay28. i found out the washer was .390x1.00x.06 equals to 3/8x1"x1/16
