1972 225 sterndrive electric shift. Overheating problem at higher rpm. Everything is new impeller. Pump. Logs cleaned. Timing set advance timing set. I looked all over the o/d. Can't find the opening for grease zerk. Thanks Rich

My o/d doesn't have that hole. I looked all over front and back. The only hole I have that looks like the Pict. Is for exhaust witch by the way not much comes out. I sent Pict the last time I posted this but don't have them now. Please look at my old posts. Truthfully I don't understand how a little grease can stop exhaust from entering the impeller. I overheat I believe it is a exhaust issue due to the exhaust exiting at the intermediate housing Thanks

HOWARD - no need for the "courtesy," you're welcome to use my images as you wish: for all of your wisdom I've pirated the least I can do is illustrate some of it.

It can. I'm beginning to think this is what happened when I overheated this year.

The photo you posted in your other thread was of the hole at the top of this image:

If it doesn't, something is very wrong. The zerks actually mount to the swivel which is on the top of the lower unit inside the housing. You can just barely see one in this image:

The only way to access that grease point is through the hole or to disassemble the drive.

The hole you identified is at the black arrow in this mage, the one you need is the red arrow:

I had a hard time finding where to grease mine as well, it is exactly where @southkogs describes. Though by looking at it I was skeptical about putting grease in there, i did, and no issues.

If the fitting isn't there, then just remove drive, lift the upper gearbox out of the exhaust housing and just smear lots of grease around the bushing that the lower swivels around on to steer
