Hello all,
My motor is seized up and I'm seeking advice how to tear down the powerhead to the crankshaft.

Thanks all,

Don't mean to belittle your request, but the answer really boils down to this: Remove everything, then split the case. Seriously, remove the tank, flywheel, magneto, carburetor, reed plate, cylinder head, and anything I forgot to mention. Then remove powerhead from midsection. Finally, remove the screws and split the case.

Thanks F_R, you're explanation is clear, jives with attached illustration. Though mine is a 1964 and this manual shows a 1963, it's useful.

Cheers,

J. Smith

Is your motor seized from sitting or did it happen while running? If it's from sitting you may be able to free it up. You can try the various concoctions via the spark plug holes and give it a few weeks to see if it loosens up. The other method I've used on a few motors has been to take off the carb, intake and reed valve; pretty easy. This will expose the inside of the engine. You can take a wood/teflon/plastic dowel (punch) and hammer gently on the crankshaft counterweights. A little forceful but not like your a blacksmith. If they budge a little they will usually give up the ghost and the motor will be freed-up. At this point you have little to loose and if you win you've spared yourself a lot of work. fyi

Thanks. At least I could try this on the way to a total teardown. By the way, the motor seized from being run with no oil in the gasoline. This spectacular accomplishment w P

You will have to open that up and repair as needed then.

its always interesting and painfull to tear one down to see what straight gas does to a two stroke from bottom to top, but i would be looking for another short block power head from a good source. jmo.

thanks all, yes, it's interesting and painful to see the results of slack care and operation, but with a careful and unhurried process and lots of photo documentation to keep me straight, I actually look forrward to this. Just think, my hands will be only the second pair of hands to have touched this engine's innards in half a century. Oh happy day!
