Hardest part for me to figure out on this mini-resto was finding the correct rope tiller grommet that would function and look exactly like the broken one I replaced. I found it right here at Iboats and was priced quite reasonable. It is a Moeller 020101-10 in the correct black color and material. Mine was broken in two and I had no idea what it was called or where to get it. I used correct aluminum rivets to install the new one and added a bottom rivet to prevent over flexing from the control cables working it, which is what caused the original one to fail. I also re-drilled the original two holes as they were no where near level. Finding out much of the boat was put together this way originally, everything looked to be eye balled as good-nuff:)

I also got the tach wired in and working good, used a factory wiring harness found at a marine center, it was ten yrs old, new in box. Got it wired into the light circuit too.

looks like we have the same outboard and I am also thinking to add a tach to mine. could you please tell me how you did it and what did you use? (with few pictures will be even better). thanks in advance!

I will get some pics posted later this week, the part number for the tach harness I used is 84-86396A8, it is a 5 foot long harness that plugs directly into the quicksilver controller which already has the tach signal from the rectifier/votage regulator running to the controller through the stock engine harness. Hook up with this harness is a snap. I had already purchased wire and located the rectifier on my engine to hard wire it in before I realized the factory already did it for me. Just make sure the tach you purchase has the provision to run off a 12 pole alternator, you don't use the cylinder settings on the tach. I used an older style Quicksilver Tachometer purchased as NOS but was also around ten years old at my local marine outlet center (like the Tuesday morning of marine parts).

Ran great out on Lake Blue Cypress Vero Beach. Wife at the helm, cruising around 4,000RPM. A bit choppy, lake is only 8 feet deep and 7 miles long by 3 miles across. Saw some really big gators too.

New tach working great, engine whips right up to redline. Might consider slightly larger prop or more pitch, running the 10-5/8 X 13 that came on it.

Hey that's awesome GD! Shorts and short sleeves weather. Rough water never seems to come through the same in pics or video like it does in person but still the ole gal seemed to handle the chop nicely!

Messin' with gators can end not so well I've heard. Here in WA we have water dogs that bite but none quite that size.

Thanx Watermann, here are some better stills, one shows the chop in the lake, still not as rough when we first came out of the marina. One big ass lake! Felt like the ocean.

Water lock at end of M Canal, M canal was nice smooth ride, always protected from the wind. it's about 2 miles long maybe.

Also taken on M canal

Nice hole-shot there Gold! What's the max RPM for that Merc? 5500? That prop is getting you on plane in a snap! :thumb:

Love the original interior of your boat...like ridin' in a Time Machine!

I think it is 5500-5750, the range for redline. It did pretty close to the upper limit, did not show it too will in video.

I remember being in Lake Black Shear a couple of times when I lived in Americus, GA back in the 80's. GA is a prettier state than FL.

Nothing like miles of smiles and a good boat under your feet. One of the biggest problems I see people have is at the launch. The transition of the boat from wheels to water one way or the other gives people all sorts of frustration and can ruin an outing real quick, Glad to see you got it nailed with the tilt trailer!

So true Watermann. I drove a tractor trailer one summer maybe 25yrs ago and that part stuck with me. I can always back the trailer in right where I want it, right up against the dock, pull the tilt pin and slide the boat in the water. Retrieving is quite easy. With manual tilt I can't really power the boat on the trailer anyway but with at least two us, it does not take much more time to load it than the power loader guys blowing the bottom from underneath the ramp with their props. Not that I am bragging, but almost everyone I see at the lake ramp looks pretty amateur trying to back in with 10 corrections and then taking 5 or 6 shots to drive the boat on the trailer. Not all of them are like that but quite a few of them and they are much older than me, and I ain't a youngin' either:)
