what is this plug cap hanging off? **pic. 1993 Evinrude 115 horsepower TLETS

Hey everyone,

While replacing a bad plug wire, I noticed this plug hanging off. Could someone please tell me what this is and if this could affect my engines performance?

It was the small plug that has the orange wire that was hangin off.

That's a coil wire from plug to the coil. It's not a factory wire-as indicated by the light colored end. Personally, I'd replace it with a factory coil wire. Sold as a wire kit: 582365. No telling if it's made to factory specs and if it really clamps tightly on the coil stub or not.

Yup. That it be.

Fwiw if those leads get loose I take em off & GENTLY squeeze with pliers to snug em up. You'll wanna keep those connections clean. I periodically pull the coils off and hit the terminals with my brass grinder wheel. Make sure you keep the ground tab clean too. As well as where it makes contact on the head(s).

That's an off brand coil wire going from the coil to the spark plug. Get rid of it and replace with OEM.

To answer your question.... With that orange wire NOT connected to its related coil, your engine would be running on three (3) cylinders. Yep, that'll affect the engine's performance!

You guys are awesome and yes, it was running on three cylinders. I posted an earlier thread about my engine being "bogged" down and I think I know the reason now.
