I found this posted on another boat forum I frequent:
So there should be some good deals to be had between now and July 1 on donor boats as boat yards, marinas and storage yards attempt to dispose of fiberglass hulls before the law taking effect. I guess I'll need to get my 'spare' FireFlite off the tires out back and far enough back not to be seen from the road.
Some of you will rejoice, others may mourn in silence. But try not to over do it posting
A new federal law section 18 part 789 passed the house today and is expected to go into effect July 1, 2015 banning and enforcing abatement of all fiberglass boats or anything made of fiberglass manufactured on or before December 1,1983. It states that some fiberglass may contain asbestos (used as a low cost filler) and must be disposed of appropriately.
It also states some pretty hefty non compliance penalties of up to $10,000.00 in fines and up to four years in prison (per actionable product) for gross violators.
