Bravo 1 installation

I am in the process of installing my 1990 bravo one drive back on and was wondering if there's some sort of a trick to getting the shift cable to engage the drive? The cable itself only seems to be sticking out an inch so there's really no room for wiggle.

Move the shifter so that the cable comes out a little more.

Ok I just did that. Are you supposed to be able to turn the prop shaft with it in gear?

You know what, I just thought of something. When I winterized her for the winter I knew I was going to be replacing the exhaust flappers so I took the risers off which meant I had to unbolt the brackets that attach to the motor, I'm assuming that's tge reason it to be moving in gear?

In gear out of gear at the prop makes no difference on a Bravo drive, the prop holding when installing is only for Alpha drives.

Alpha drives removed/installed in full forward position. Bravo drives removed/installed in neutral.

Then the shift linkage is pulled out of the drive it moves the drive in reverse. When the cable is in the linkage jaws and the drive is installed, the jaws close and the cable does not move, as drive is moved into position against the bell housing, the linkage moves changing the drive from reverse to neutral.

Depends on what you mean by cheap, new least expensive or used

Might have to go used at that price range. Try CL and ebay to see what's out there. Best price for new I've found is at SEI in Canada at 120 each

No, that's a Merc number and the full number adds "A26: to the end. As before there are others which make the rams, I would suggest searching for "Bravo trim cylinders", it will come back with several

10w30 works best and 10w40 works ok
