Hello everyone. I'm having an issue with a water pump that I'm hoping someone else has some experience with. We have a Silverton Aft Cabin Cruiser with twin Mercruiser 350 Mag Bluewater Inboard engines. Two years ago we installed new impeller kits including wear plate, rear housings and impellers. We had nearly two whole seasons without any problems. At the end of last season I noticed a leak coming from the starboard engine bravo water pump housing. It was dripping from the lower hose right at the connection and appeared to simply be a loose hose clamp. I checked the tightness on the hose clamps of upper and lower hoses on the pump and also checked the tightness of the all the bolts in the housing. Although I knew it was a long shot that the problem was here I tried anyway and did not stop the leak. The leak was a very slow drip while engine was off, a very fast drip while engine was running and could be completely stopped by shutting off the sea **** that supplies water to that engine.

Well, I wasn't able to get around to looking further into this issue before I had to winterize. Last week we summerized the boat I was reminded of the problem so here I am seeking advice before I tear everything down. I was told by a boat mechanic friend that it had to be the gasket on the housing (not likely-it took 2 years to all of a sudden start leaking) or it could be the bearings and seals on the shaft of the pump. I did not see any wobble in the pulley while the engine was running nor could I feel any play while attempting to move the pulley on the pump.

Anyone got any experience dealing with a leaky pump with these symptoms?

Agree with Bondo, pull the pump. If the pump has a mechanical fuel pump mounted on top, pull the lube fill plug and see if gas has diluted the lube. If it doesn't have a fuel pump mounted to it, then just inspect
