Thanks gm280, ....What I need to know is how to remove 48 & 49 from where they are seated.
I'm removing the flow control valve and assorted hoses and replacing it with 1993 thermostats and covers. I have all the parts, just need to know a good way to remove and install new cups & seals.

Problem solved:
Since the cups were really, really snug, but in good condition; I elected to leave them in place. I removed the old seal thru the cup opening, cleaned things up inside and then squeezed new rubber seals into place.

Okay, great to see you're making progress now. I have never ever worked on your type engine so I didn't have any procedures for you to remove those parts. But you now have that experience to give to others when they ask for it. And that IS what makes these forums so great. The combined experiences of all the members... :thumb:

I have the same exact motor but an Evinrude. Whats the reason for going with the '93 parts?

These old loopers have a "flow control valve" located behind the throttle assembly. This valve is connected to the throttle and controls the water flow thru the thermostats based on RPM.
My flow valve was leaking and new valves are no longer available. Seals for rebuild are also listed as "no longer available"

I searched this site and came upon the 93 upgrade.
