Hi Guys. Yesterday I helped a bud try out his just bought 1994 2252 classic with 4.3 Mercruiser. He put 65 liters of gas which topped up the tank to 7/8ths full. Off we went but the boat would not get on plane, (his trim tabs did not work which did not help) at 4800 rpm it was doing about 20 knots but it still did not seem to be planing well. Water was flat no wind. My own boat trophy 2052 with same engine is skimming along at 3400rpm doing 20+knots so this is what I am comparing it with. At 5500rpm for 30 seconds we got 25 knots.
So in total about 10 minutes of 4800rpm and the rest about 45mins pottering along at about 5-6 knots at 2000rpm, which I thought was also very slow, my boat will do, I think, 10-12 knots at 2000rpm. Need to confirm that.
Anyway the boat died after the hour and about 10-12 miles distance. We started the kicker which also died, both fed from the same tank. Fuel gauge reads half full but tank is empty knocking the SS tank sounds very empty and confirmed when friend brought out gas and no fuel problem was resolved. So gauge or sender needs attention. Tank is new. Leg was replaced by previous owner with a recon unit not sure if gear ratios are correct. No gas in bilge.
Here is the point, we used at least 65 liters possibly more as there was some gas in the tank before, for the above scenario and the boat seems to be dead slow, which says to me that the prop or ratios could be wrong, or is that just how this boat is. since it has a 50 gal tank then the range cannot be much??? Are there any 2252 owners or anyone in the know about this boat with this engine that can shed some light?
Where should I look to find specs on what prop it should have and what gear ratios should be in there? .
Any help would be greatly appreciated, the couple who bought the boat are such nice folks, you can imagine their disappointment. all advice appreciated.
Sorry for long post.
