So I took a set of props off the boat, and these pieces where left on the shaft when the back prop came off. Do these go with the old prop? Or do they need to stay there. The reason i ask is when i put my new prop on, they seem to get in the way. Also the small washer is splined. And there are no splines on that part of the shaft, so im not really sure what its even doing there.

In this photo, you have two sets of thrust washers. The old and new. The old is the one that covers the part of the bearing carrier (far left piece in your photos) and the newer is the piece with the spline cut-outs to fit over the splines. I do not know that that middle piece is. I have the DPC-1 and use the newer. Keep in mind that there is another thrust washer that fits over the smaller shaft, and abuts the larger shaft for the smaller, aft prop.

Oh, and my comments are using the aluminum, B set of props. Not sure for the other sets.

So i need to take everything off the shaft, put the splined thrust washer on, then the back prop, then the lock nut setup, then the smaller non spline thrust washer, then the next propeller, and then finally the locknut assembly?

What holds the back splined thrust washer on the splines? It will simply slide off the splines because theres nothing between the splines and the seal.

Here is where the threaded lock washer will end up. No splines and against the seal when the prop is put on. Also can that seal be replaced easily?

This is the order it goes together, except i forgot to put the large locknut between the first prop and the small washer for the picture. Correct?

The rear-most thrust washer is held inlace by the prop. It goes up against it and prevents the prop from biting into the seals in the bearing carrier. In the last photo, you are missing the nut that screws on the splined area and holds the aft prop in place. Check eBay :Volvo Penta New OEM Stern Drive Propeller Front Forward Prop Nut 3851569

Look at my picture That splined thrust washer, wont ride on the splines, it will just push up against the seal. Thats why i dont understand why its splined. it looks liek there is something missing.

Sorry, I missed that. You did mention it...
That splined thrust washer will not ride on the splines. It will go over them and push up to the ridge before the seal. It has the spline cut-outs only to fit over the shaft. Some spacers are different, depending on what props you use.
I don't have the cover for that nut either. I think it, like the older thrust washer (or line cutter, I think he calls it) were an older version of what you and I have.

That makes more sense. Thank you. So what about that seal cover in the first picture. I should run it, then the splined washer? Get rid of that plastic crap thats between them?

Thank you for clarifying that.

That seal cover is the older version of the splined thrust washer that you have. You can use either one, but not both. I think that it was designed as a line cutter to prevent fishing line getting into that seal area, but it has been discontinued and the newer, splined washer is what is now used. I have never seen that middle piece that you have. It's plastic? Don't know what that is, but different props (stainless steel, etc) use different combinations of spacers. I do know that some of those spacers are plastic. I run the "B", aluminum Volvo props, and the set-up that you have is what I run.

Is it easy to replace that seal on the bottom there? It looks a little dried out. Its not leaking oil. But i did notice the transom oil is slightly milky looking, so there is some moisture in it. Since the seal isnt leaking oil, i assume its still holding. Is it typical that the oil will get milky over time anyways, especially if not changed?

I plan on changing the oil, i just wanted to know if i need to be concerned.

If the oil is milky, it probably means water got in somewhere. A few places it can enter, including the bellows, Shift assembly, between the sections and the drain plugs and prop seal, to name a few. Hard to know without doing a test...Never replaced that seal myself. I always have a mechanic do it for me..Wish I could help on that.
