Surely a 1.5 year old engine is still under warranty. Take it to a Merc dealer...

Here is a funny story,

On its first service, I take the boat to the only one merc dealer on the area. What a surprise, they didn`t know even how to take the engine oil out. They didn?t know how to do a simple service to a Mercruiser (engine oil change, change oil filter, change transm oil, fuel filter) (They specialized on Outboards, but still "mercruiser dealers") . I had to tell them how to do it and they didn't have to proper tools so I ended doing the service by myself. What a mistake, they didn't know how to do the service, BUT you still lose the warranty if you do it by yourself.

So, no warranty on this engine... I have to figure it out by my self, I even prefer spends the $600.00 on the Rinda scan for future problems.

That's exactly what I did, bought the software. Has paid for itself many times over.

BTW, did you write a letter to Merc complaining about the dealer? If you did, then you may still have warranty.

Well, unfortunaly, in Mexico the support team is not as good as in the US. Even If I complain, I wont get anything. Returning to the main topic, two days ago, after taking the fuel filter off, puring the fuel on a jar and reinstall the filter, I gave her a try. I turn the key to on and hear the fuel pump running, I dont know why but my guess is that the pump was running only on ON and not when cranking, so for be sure, I tap at the fuel pump relay twice and crank the engine. VOALA, it runs like a charm.

So, I dont know if there was air in the line of the fuel, vapor, contaminated fuel or the relay is starting to fail, but it is running. I turn the engine on and off 5 times on Thursday, five times on Wednesday and I am planning to do so today. Anyway, I just bought the Rinda Scan, and is on its way. I boght the fuel pump relay for having on board for precaution.

I learn a lot trying to solve this problem and you guys help me so much,

Thanks for your help.

Congrats! Like achris said, that scan tool will pay for itself between you & your friends boats. But charge your friends, haha.

I'd still call mercruiser & let them know how you were treated at that dealership. Might at least save another guy some frustration in the future. Good luck. Jim.

Well, it happends again. Two weeks ago, when I got the engine running we go to the bay on the weekend. Everything where normal. No problems. We take the boat out, rise it with fresh water and clean all the boat.

This weekend, two weeks later, I tried to get the boat running and it happends again. Cranks and cranks but it just didnt start. I got spark, I got fuel pressure, I check the valve in the manifold and there is fuel and pressure. I just like something is telling the engine not to fire up.

I thinking about a bad connection in the ignition sensor, but since the boat is in the marina (25 minutes away) I want to go with some more things to check before I leaved.

I got the Rinda Tech Mate pro and It doesn't show any problem, any failure (excepcs a O2 sensor, I cleared, and stills nothing).

Hope you can help me

He fixed it the same way you should try by starting your own thread. BTW - ronaca hasn't visited since some time in 2018.
