I have the steering wheel off in my 87 Four Winns (non power steering) and need to take off the cable and base just so I can get the plywood piece so I can redo the skin on it. If I remove the cable and all from under the column is there any adjustments I'll have to do afterward? I don't want to get myself in for a lot of work to just redo the skin, if so I'll just cut around it.

Thanks.

You should be able to remove the attaching hardware and push the box with cable out of the hole. No adjustments needed during reassembly. You might want to suspend the box/cable assembly so the cable isn't strained.

Oh actually I forgot, I was thinking I could push the cable assembly back into the helm but theres a piece right under the steering wheel that stops it. Wasnt sure if that has to be pulled off or what. Let me go take a pic and post it.

So just take those two lower bolts off in the behind the dash pic (the ones with the L brackets) and pull the shaft out the front?

Motor mechanics use these to pull steering components apart. IMG_0007_opt.jpg

After you get the boss off undo the bolts & pull the rest out the back.

These are the bolts holding the box to the dash, there should be two of them;

You still might need a puller like Fed pictured if the bolts spin and won't come undone because the nuts look like Nyloks.

I'm pretty sure it has to come out the back GA, there will be a plate under the black shroud that bolts to the 'steering box'.
