Hello everyone, Last night, sept 17, I was fishing the south side of montauk light. I was fishing in a 21.5 FT Seaswirl Striper. At approximately 11 PM, I was drifting, and fishing, and my navigation lights were on. I was struck broadside by a larger boat that was under full power, up on a plane.

Several witnesses came to help, but the boat who hit me turned off his lights and left the scene. I did not get a good look at the boat that hit me. One witness described the boat as approximately a 26-28 White Center Console, very new looking, with twin Yamaha outboards.

My friend and I were not hurt, as we jumped out of the boat at impact. My boat however, is totaled.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you have ANY information on what happened, or have seen a boat remotely similar to the description with front end damage, please message me. My boat, and much of my gear is a total loss.

That would be horrific, you must be very shaken. I assume you had insurance for the boat and we or you are looking for a drunken boater. I wonder if remorse will set in at a culprit will come forward.

Oh man, so sorry for you and your friend. But equally glad you both were not hurt. I am certain that the boat that hit you has some damage to the hull and equally sure he can't repair it himself and therefore you can put out the word that you are looking for him. I hope you involved the authorizes in this... Your event is one great reason I seriously hate to fish at night. I've had a few really close calls myself and I figured the fish weren't worth it anymore to me. I fish daylight hours, but that is about it. :sorry:

Looks like you may have made the NEWS.

We almost got hit two weeks ago. That was scary enough, can't quite imagine actually getting hit. Thank God y'all are okay. I'm sorry for all of the loss you've incurred.

Wow! One of my biggest fears boating is sitting drifting fishing and a boater not paying attention hitting us.

This is one of the reasons, I don't believe in driving at planing speeds at night.

You contacted Marine Patrol to report this incident?....those guys get to know their way around the area and may have some ideas about who hit you.....You were very fortunate not to be killed or injured!

Glad your OK. Insurance will cover the boat damage. Hopefully who ever caused this will be caught soon. It could be a lot worse.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I posted the news story on another forum that probably has more members local to that area. Best of luck being made whole in the end of this.

I'd bet my meager life savings that this was a BUI.

I'm right with ya' on that Bruce.
On the lake that I have my pontoon boat on, speed limit is 5MPH. On Lake Tahoe where I use my Wellcraft, you see these guys going 30 MPH when it is hours after sunset!

I feel for you guys. That had to be super scary. I hope they find that jerk.
We attended a 4th of July fireworks display on our lake last year. After the display, there were jerks tearing all over the place. Boats going dangerously close across our bow doing 45-50 mph in the pitch black of night! The speed limit on the lake at night is supposed to be 25 mph.
The lake is Wallenpaupack in northeastern PA. 13 miles long, 52 miles of shoreline.

WOW! Lakes here in Wisconsin are NO WAKE after sunset.

Long ago when I was working at a marina I got to know one of the regulars that kept his boat slipped there that was involved in a night time collision, he almost lost his life and had the scars to prove it.

... 'round here it's the stereotypical bass boats beating down at least 30 if not much more. Several that I saw the other night were running without NAV lights.

I just don't know how you could hit a boat, total it and drive off. There could or likely would be people in the water in need of medical help. Even if you were under the influence, I would never be able to live with my self or use the boat again. A teenage friend ran over another boat at night. He was WOT and the other boat was drifting with no lights. People lost there lives that night and his life changed forever.
