cable ties for fuel hose clamps inside the motor?

Inside my '99 90hp it looks like they use a black cable tie to secure the small fuel lines going to the carbs. Does anyone know of a source for these? Can conventional cable ties be used?

I use quality cable ties for these applications. Not the super cheap 1000/$5 deals you find. I think Grote or something like that. They probably sell suitable ones on this site.

Yes use good zip ties and a good zip tie gun to install them. There are other really good clamps as well, crimp type hose clamps work really well and don't take up much space.

If you can install them, they are solid. JMHO!

Never use a conventional ties on fuel line as they will not pull down in a full clamping circle. Only use the ties for fuel lines as they have a ramp and pull full tension around hose.I use BRP ties as I get em cheap...

Yes, these are good. You can get the kind made for fuel lines at most dealers. They're inexpensive.
Usually my dealer just gives me a hand full.

If I can't get something from the dealer then it looks like a place to look is supplies for motorycyle fuel line. They have the spring type. I know these cable ties have lasted 15 years but the thought of cable ties for fuel line just bothers me. I just need to get a hose off and measure some dimensions.

Here are some methods I've used successfully. Wrap a longer cable tie around twice to keep from having a spot without pressure. Use two ties or clamps with the ends on opposite sides. Another thing that I do to make an older line not leak is to put a little Permatex #2 on a screwdriver and smear a thin coat on the inside of the hose. It doesn't leak. That works on water line hoses as well. It won't cure a pin hole leak.

That's a good idea on the permatex. I had not thought of that. Useful on my chain saw and weed eater repairs too.

I'd hesitate to put permetex on the inside of the hose. When you push it on, it pushes the permetex back deeper, now you have permetex inside the fuel system. If you insist on using it, put it on the nipple the line goes to, away from the end of the nipple a tad. When you push the line on it pushes away from the inside of the line.
A proper clamp is the best route to go.......

I put on my equivalent to Permatex #2, Tite something (non hardening) to the inside of old hoses "sparingly" and have never had a problem. I can't clean it off my hands with gasoline and it doesn't seem to leave the place applied. I've done this since around 1960 when a mechanic in the Chevrolet garage told me about it. If I put a new hose on a corroded nipple then I apply it to the nipple and have had good results that way. I use a small clean screwdriver and wipe it around in the hose then clean the screwdriver right away with a paper towel or rag that I throw away. You can't clean it off satisfactorily with any solvents I have tried. Do you best to keep it off your fingers because it's quite a process to peal and wear it off.

I'd hesitate to put permetex on the inside of the hose.

+++1 Recent experimental airplane crash was caused by the builder doing something similar.
