?????---Some folks would simply use a punch or a screwdriver and then you have a handle to start turning it off.

OK, so I admit I'm totally ignorant concerning so new a motor. But is the filter really that unusual? Or would it be a typical lawn mower type filter? I'm wondering if a mower shop might be the place to look. Or even Home Depot or Lowes? Inquiring mind is curious.

Yeah, I've poked a screwdriver through stubborn filters too. Kind of scary because you know it HAS to work once you do that. But it has, so far.

I would use a small strap wrench

we keep one in the kitchen for jar lids

But I am finding that the oil filter is an "obsolete" part. I hope you can find a suitable alternative.

The engine is the same as a Tohatsu and a Nissan
Tohatsu part number 3R0-07615-0 should bit the bill [h=2][/h]

I tried the screw driver trick once and it did not spin off the filter. It did rip the filter apart though. This filter has very little clearance for access due to the cowling. Thank you for the ref for the tool.

FYI this engine is also used in a mercury model. That where I found the filter at a boat place.
