Boom what kind of shooting will you be doing? at what distance?

For right now, probably just plinking at 50-100 yards. I really just got it to jump on the bandwagon and grab one.

....... steel imported stuff is crap and I will not even use any of it in any of my .223/5.56 weapons (or in any of my pistols either).........

What is the steel case .556 manufactured for, American suckers? ...or are there guns that can ingest it. I know alot of steel case ammo was made for AK's.

Got my handle w/ rear sight today. It is a pretty impressive piece for only $18 shipped. My AR is due in to the FFL holder on Tuesday. Whopee!

Well, I'll do pictures when I get the main event. In the meantime I just ordered 420 rds of Federal 55 gr .223. It was $180.00 shipped. Might not have been the very best price possible but it will get me off to a quick start. Sportsman's Guide also had 500 rds of 'remanufactured' .223, but within a few tenths of a cent, it was the same price per round, so why bother?

That will get you going, I know when I am looking for ammo, I try to keep the cost around $0.30 cents a round, and if you cruise the ad's it is not to difficult to find at that price, I don't buy reman because I know I will be reloading much of my once shot brass for my .300 blackout. I got all of my dies and reloading equipment Friday and mounted everything to the bench yesterday, on Monday, I am going to pick up powder, bullets and primers, so will be ready to go by Tuesday. I like my .223 but I really enjoy shooting the .300. It will probably end up being my deer hunting rifle.

You neck up .223 cases for 30 cal.?

To make 300 blackout cases you cut the neck and then neck up the shoulder to 30.

I googled it. It looks like a mean little cartridge? Can you reload the modified cases after one firing? What do you do for AR magazines that fit them?

Nope, you don't neck up, what you do is cut the shoulder of the .223 off right below the shoulder and then lubricate and put in a sizing die, anneal the new neck/shoulder which is now sized for a 30 caliber bullet. The .300 uses the same magazine as the .223, so the only thing you really have to change on the gun is the barrel, instead of building just a new upper, I built a whole new gun. Right now I am waiting for someone to get new stripped uppers in stock and I will be building a new .223 so my wife and I can shoot at the same time.

Oh by the way, as a new AR owner, you are going to want to read my thread in Dockside about what happened after a couple of bumpfire dumps on Friday, not fun, very painful, but a very good reminder of how hot these guns actually run!

Yuppers, welcome to the club Boom! you are going to have a ball, just don't grab the barrel after shooting it! :faint2:

Finally after 3 months of looking I found another upper, so will be able to finish up my 3rd one, still have figured out what caliber I am going to make this one!

Nice! It is addictive. I have built a few. The only one I currently have is a .223/5.56 Rock River. I built a 9mm and it not fun. Now I want a 300blk since I reload.

The .300 black is a good gun, enough lead for hunting and when reloading, it actually does make it more reasonable to shoot.

Why's that thumpar? I have an Uzi and it is fun. Seems like it would be cheaper to shoot even though it does not reach out as far.
It felt like shooting a .22lr. I had a .22lr conversion at one time. Since I reload 9mm and .223 are about the same price. I like 9mm but just don't like it in the AR platform. One of my favorite guns is the HK MP5. My friend has a select fire with suppressor on it.

Why so long, MT? Are you that particular or is there a shortage?

The supply is very low right now and they are gone by the time you get notified, I was just looking for a slick side without the Forward assist or the dust door and believe me it took a while.
