So my old prop got damaged when pulling the boat out this spring and I need to replace it. I will be keeping the old one as a spare as it is not too bad. Currently it is a 13.25" by 17 I am thinking I would like to go to a 19 pitch but am not sure. The motor is a 1977 mercury 550 and I had it as 5400-5500 rpm WOT last fall. WOuld going to a 19 increase my speed by much or go with what was there before that worked well.

If 5500 is your max rpm, i would order a prop just like the one that got damaged.

Okay made the decision to go with a black max of the same size and pitch as I got a good deal on it at a local marine repair shop.

Assume 5500 wot revs is with new prop, right ? If so, that's perfect, bear in mind that as soon you start adding extra weight wot rpm will decrease accordingly. All my combos have maximized props to run near or at max wot range, add extra weight to a point that wot revs doesn't go any lower than middle rpm when boating full throttle. OB will run with less stress than running in the min wot range.

5500 is with the old prop with the same size and pitch so they should run almost the same.
