OK I just picked up the boat from getting tuned up. She's got a fresh 454 big block in her. When I picked it up from the mechanic he told me that once he did the break-in procedure for the camshaft he had a run for 20 minutes of 2000 RPMs after that he noticed that he could smell something burning so he sprayed his hose in the bell housing area and noticed That it sounded like a Frying pan. could that be my gimbal bearing going?

Fresh motor and smelled something burning. Question: who installed the motor ?

Edit: another question, is this motor being run at 2000 rpms on muffs?

you need another mechanic. If you had to run the motor that long and that fast to break in a cam, you should have removed the
drive and used a hose in the water inlet.
Spraying water on the gimbal housing and it sizzled? gimbal bearing is toast
