A better look at the sensor coil. Do I need the OMC tool to remove wires from 5 pin connector or is there another way?

check the diagram. A replacement unit would come with the aphenol connector attached -- plug and play.

My friend the mechanic at work got some terminal connector tools that I borrowed. They came out with ease just a little alcohol. Think I'll order a locating ring for $20 to make sure everything is in its place.

UPDATE: Installed exhaust cover with new gaskets. Replaced sensor coil aligned coils with locating ring. Started it up spit and sputter. Low speed needle way it so adjusted back in. Got it to run at idle until I gave it throttle. So I played with needle turning 1/4 at a time still works stall out. Haven't tried spraying around motor for rpm change will do that this evening. I guess it's to the boat man after this or sell.

Sorry, I can't offer any advice, but hope you get it figured out. Keep us posted.

UPDATE Just got the call from mechanic. He found a crack in the pick up tube or jet. Not sure will reconfirm when I pick up boat. He took carb apart put it back together couldn't get it to idle. I need a carb. That was one item on my list.

Well, here's a used one that might be useful for parts (Check for fit):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Johnson-25-...ash=item2cb0174c46:g:iiMAAOSwIgNXj5Yo&vxp=mtr

Or maybe replacement parts for your current carb:

Presumably, your repair guy might be able to fix you up with something. Hard to say.

I found one for $49.99 ships tomorrow. Lets hope it's a good one.

:mad-new: As of right now I'm defeated. Got replacement carb to start off with it was running fine. Wouldn't stay running so had to adjust Cam pickup point. Got it to take throttle then back to spit popping just as before only with different carb. Different carb same results or I'm making the same mistakes. So far this mistake has cost me $3000.

Have to say it.---Find a good shop to repair this motor.

Find a resting place for it. It's one of those problems "I've never seen this before" type deals. Ok me either cause I'm not a mechanic. Save up in a couple years I can buy new I don't need to go fishing now, it's just a want. No more Johnson's for me.

hey -- think you might have in hand! sounds like a little lean sneeze cold (just a little) -- my 9.9 does that too, and I adjust the carb about 1/4 richer just for starting, then adjust it back when it warms up. All good....

Yeah it does it on start up then goes away. Going by the service manual on the synch & link was throwing me off. Plus trying to do some of this stuff with artificial lights does't help. At first it was running just like the old one. My buddy kept saying it's something simple. So i put the cam roller on the marks look at butterfly it was open a tad. Loosen screw and let it close, tighten it back up and started it up. Started and ran fine did have to adjust my throttle linkage so it would idle a little higher. At the time its currently running 750-850 rpms idling. I plan to put it on the water maybe tomorrow if not the weekend.

So far so good and thanks for the help. :D

Engine has been running fairly decent with new carb. Lean sneeze every now and then. I adjusted gear shifter two days ago and found a little spring hanging in the port hole. I took lower end off and looked up in tube and removed the spring (round). My guess is that is part of the crankcase lower seal. Now anyone willing to guide me thru this tedious project jump aboard. LoL

Just wondering with hunting around the corner could I run this engine a couple more time before I jumped on this project.
