What kind of WOT RPM were you getting with the 15". If it was within spec, that is the most you should use.

It was wot about 5500ish +/- on my tach (I'd venture to guess it is half way accurate), even the 13 pitch is within range, it runs about the same. I wouldn't mind getting it down in the 5100-5200 range and work for it.

It certainly burns more gas towing people, though i am very happy with the 13 pitch performance while towing. 2 of us skied and tubed behind it for a couple hours today. Ran well other than the high idle still when the linkage doesn't fully come back. It sticks about 2k rpms :(

It's a work in progress, I haven't got the points for it yet, not sure if it's supposed to come in the tune up kit or not but from what you guys had said they do. I have been waiting to pull the cap to get whatever was backordered from the kit.

Your WOT is supposed to be 5200 to 5600. You might get away with a 15" prop and stay in that range but no bigger pitch.

Don't shift your drive if it is at 2K RPM. You will ruin the clutch dogs.

i end up shutting it down at 2k if it sticks. when i restart it, it comes back down a bit and the shift cut out switch will engage.

its on the list of stuff to look at...

I run a 17 prop - will hit 40mph at wot with me and one other person. Will do 35 mph with 6 ppl no prob. Will easily pull a 200 pound skier up. Good fuel consumption. I have tried other props 17 seems to be the sweet spot for me - just my experience since we have the same set up of boat and engine

Thanks for the info! I was hoping someone had a 17 pitch. Have you ever tried anything higher?

I see a few others that have ran 17s with great results as well.

When the gps hits 40mph it shows on my tack a 5 grand. not sure how accurate the tack is . On a side note, I dont hold it there for long as I can tell its pushing it. I will say that since my prop is aged now its harder to get there. Mostly we cruise around 25mph or 30mph. In a few weeks the 4.3L is going in so I will be done with this 2.3L. LOL..

Both props, run about the same it seems. 100% on the 13 pitch running 5500, as I checked it sunday.

What do run at 25-30 with the 17? I'm running well into the 4k range, I'm thinking. It certainly likes gas running around with the rpms that high with my 13.

The 13 pulled 2 of us tubing, a big Bertha tube and a sports rubber one. Both had bottoms... I'm 240#, my buddy is 190-200#. It didn't even know we were behind it.

The idea for asking about the prop is that I want to be able to cruise and get good fuel range with it when I don't plan to ski. Things like cruising lake superiors shoreline next year on vacation will be when it's nice to have the lower rpms at 25-30 32-3500 or so rpms would be ideal if bet. I would think i can save a $100 pretty easy in gas by just switching pitches and having some cotter pins in my box. That's what a prop costs anyway lol.

Tapped out, 5500 I'm running about 33 mph with my 13 pitch. I won't run that high for extended amounts of time, that's for sure.

Are they all loud when the engine is running up high? Mine is quite loud, you can't hold a Convo above 25 no matter what.

You just don't want to be overpropped. Very bad for the engine. a 17" is close to being overpropped but might be ok depending on how many people in the boat. Just because some people do it doesn't mean you should do it.

No way a 19" would work.

Im curious, as I'm not familiar enough with it. What would make it bad? Too much torque over stresses the engine?

I'm learning Bruce! Thanks for all of the help here!

It's lugging the engine. Imagine you have a stick shift car and you shift into the next gear too early on every shift. Hard on the crank, connecting rods...

Ah ok, didn't think of it that way.

Z, you may have better luck with most items engine related in the force section. The vin will give you the year, there's a decoder around somewhere that has the letters and numbers broken out. It is HIN hull identification number for reference on the nber. It should be in the back most likely. Mine is on the right side I believe.

eBay would probably have a kit, they can get expensive though. You may be better off just buying the vinyl and doing the apolostery yourself.

Think you'd want a base coat clear coat type of paint as it is fiber glass, not 100% sure though. With the right prep it should stick to the gel coat well.

Yup loud as hell!!!! This is the number one reason I am ditching the 2.3L for the 4.3L. I want to cruise at 30 and be able to talk to people or listen to the radio. You just cant do this with the 2.3L.
