plastic carb, brass ball leak

so I have a new to me 1999 150 ocean runner...it was a salt water motor, but since the carbs leaked so bad the whole motor is an oily mess....so there is no corrosion to be seen on the outside.i have pulled the carbs and they are on the bench..i have a rebuild kit for each one...my question is what you most of you doing to reseal that passage in the carb bowl that is plugged with a small brass ball? I have had similar outboards and I just sprayed and cleaned with a fast evaporating degreaser and applied super glue...it seems to have worked...but I am wondering if a larger brass ball.. or an epoxy and reinstall the ball in the epoxy? id prefer not to buy new carb bowls....

Are these the plastic carb bowls? Are yoi sure the leak is coming from the little ball?

90% sure it is the little plug.. the motor was running perfect before I bought it.....so I doubt it was any other major leak on the carbs. Yes OIS 60 degree looper motors all used plastic body carbs as far as I know.... these are plastic.

so how do you remove them to degrease? do you pry them out? or when the carb is apart is there access to knock out from the inside?

Seal All??...... is there another product that is the same?.. I don't think I have ever heard of Seal All

I just tap it in a tad and degrease with brakleen. I got it at HD.

well it looks like there probably are leaks all over these carbs...all 6 carb bowls had this crack....several had a split coming from the big brass bolt that hides the high speed orifice.....luckily I have several of the 60 degree loopers and they all used the same carb bowls!! from 1991 through 2006 and 90 hp up to 175 hp!!!!!aint that nice!!!!....since I have a few motors that threw a rod or rods!...I can steal a carb bowl!!

anyone know the part # for the correct carb bowl made out of aluminum, instead of plastic.....???? and the source? I haven't taken the parts motors carbs apart yet, but the ones that came off this motor I have now are warped at least 3/32"!!!!!!!! that's just asking too much from a gasket to seal that gap... and if you sand them....then the ridges that bite into the gasket are gone in spots and the inside dimensions change....ie volume will go down somewhat for sure....

this is a picture of a 150 hp carb body and a 175 hp carb body........but for some reason LOTS of people selling these carbs on ebay say they carbs they have for sale are for 150 and 175 hp models??????????????? I see guys selling blocks and rebuilt motors that say the same thing... "powerhead 150 and 175 hp"

that's crazy...look at the biore difference in the carbs..imagine the guy with a 175 hp model and he gets a set of 150 HP carbs!!!!!


anyway...it looks like the 175 motors carb bowls are nice and no cracks.. but there is a SLIGHT bow in the bowl.......about 1/4 of the takes off from my 1999 150!!

do guys use liquid gasket sealer on carbs at all??????

on an even other note...I went to home depot to buy a Pozidrive bit.......they don't sell one....EXCEPT inside a few select boxes of specialized screws... and they had hundreds of different bits and bit sets...NO Pozidrives!!

I bought the box of screws to get the bit!

Use only the OEM kit as the gaskets are thicker than the aftermarket kits.....
