thermostat sleeve issue

so im swapping a 4.3 v6 from one boat to another. motor was originally closed cooling and is being converted to standard cooling with the new boat
. the standard cooling system was already taken apart when i got the boat, so im not sure how its supposed to look. i thought i ordered the correct parts but the sleeve seems to be bottomed out at this point and is sticking out way to far. any ideas??

depends if you used the cork gasket or the O ring under the thermostat. It does tent to stick out slightly

used a cork gasket, this is sticking out way to far, huge gap when trying to install it
