Sx outdrive prop seal installation....seal direction please see picture

Hi I will be installing a new prop seal later on my volvo penta sx outdrive. I just want to be 100% sure that i put the seal in in the right direction see picture below.



Is the left side, the side with the spring shown in pic faceing out towards the prop.....ie facing you as you look at the back of the boat??

prop shaft seals are normally two seals. one with the spring inward toward the oil. this would be the oil side seal. the other is installed with the spring outward, this is the water side seal.

one keeps oil in, the other keeps water out.

Its just the one seal on the SX drive, there is another spring on the inside behind the light brown color part of the seal,

In first pic the left side goes into the drive away from the prop. See SX-m Manual page 177 Item B with detail A showing the orientation.

So top picture left side of seal facing into the gearbox...Ie top picture the spring you see facing the gear box.
