I installed a 3:1 NFB helm with a new cable on a lite aluminum boat with a lite 48hp motor and want to loosen it up. Specifically the sticktion in the wheel is hard to overcome. Can it be greased or adjusted to free it up a little?

are you sure its the cable and helm and not the pivot shaft on the motor?

Yes the greased up pivot is free and the steering tube all move really easy. I was hoping the helm would break in and get easier but it's not. Does anybody know how the internal clutch works? I'm wanting this thing freed up bad enough that I'm willing to bust into it to mod the clutch.
