2004 Mercrusier 4.3 litre Acceleration

[FONT=&quot]My engine will start and idle but stall when I give it gas. I just put a brand new mercarb on it and it idled better but still will stall when I give it gas. What could it be? Does it have fuel water separates? If so where? The fuel pump seems to be working fine. My serial number is om689168 [/FONT]

Yes it does have a fuel/water separator filter which looks like a oil filter

Brand new Mercarb would be worthwhile to check float height and to make certain of throttle accelerator pump function.

Thanks! I will check these. Do you think it could be water in my Gas? I ran it memorial day weekend and got 93 octane from Walmart The week of the 4th when I started having the problems.

Don't see it being water
Buying 93 octane has no bearing on your issue but does lighten your wallet more then needed.

With having trouble later I would say you got some crud in you new carb. Did you replace the filter and clean out the lines prior to installing the new one?

no and no. I turned it over to run fuel through the main line before connecting it. Would that have been enough to clean it? I don't think I have a filter. the only filter is the inlet to the carb. What about plugs, Wires and cap?

Turing it over with a "clean filter" would be enough to flush the line
You should have a filter and it looks similar to this

Since the filter has not been replaced this is where you start, then remove the carb and clean it

There is no mixer screw. That portion of the mercarb is is capped off. Their is a canister that looks as if it may have a filter inside between the fuel pump and gas tank. There is not a oil filter looking gas water separator anywhere from the carburetor to the gas tank. I have a smaller guy coming tomorrow to get the canister off. What do you think I will find inside? It looks like it should just screw off. A line from the tank and carb goes in the top Part of what looks like the canister will unscrew from.

The canister is the filter and is a self contained unit and does not come apart. Is screwed in place just like an oil filter.

Note when installing a new one, coat rubber seal with a thin layer of oil

I couldn't get the water separator off. I was about to break the housing trying. however I did pump the 36 gallons of gas out and it barely smelled of gas. You could see it separate in the buckets. that fixed the problem. The boat ran great. I still have to figure out how to change that filter. It is the original filter and it is painted black. that's why it doesn't look like a oil filter.

Remove the housing so you can put it in a vise
