Excuse if this is a dumb question.... would damage be done to the fuel pump if the fuel supply line from the pump that connects to the carb is disconnected and the motor is cranking? Should fuel come out of that line when it's cranking? Once the line is connected to the carb and the throttle is manually opened wide should there be a strong squirt of fuel?
Thanks

No

Yes

Yes and No
Yes, when the throttle is moved from closed to open there should be a stream of fuel go in.
No, when engine is cranked, there should be very little fuel go in with throttle at WOT

to expand on AllDodge's comments

on a mechanical or electric fuel pump, the pump flow is regulated by the float and needle/seat in a carburetor. when the fuel bowl is full, the float raises up and shuts off the pump output. as the level drops, the float drops, opening up the needle and seat inlet valve, allowing pump flow

when you open the throttle, the accelerator pump (between 25cc and 60cc depending on carb) will be pumped into the venturies via the enrichment circuit within the carb. this happens only when the throttle shaft is moving forward

air velocity pulls fuel in from the fuel bowls via a siphon action to maintain fuel flow in a steady state situation.

if there is no fuel flow during cranking and the supply line is disconnected, your fuel pump is bad

if there is no fuel squirting when you open the throttle blades, then most likely your accelerator pump circuit needs attention.
