hello,

Ive been running this motor for 4 years without a hitch until now. I'll include other findings in case they are related

Whilst having a jiggle and poke around the powered I found that the flywheel can be lifted vertically, like excessive axial play on the crank, at least 2mm???

I have the carbs on the bench cause it would bog at wot but recovered if idled. Found collapsed check valve inside fuel pump(sucked into the cavity it seals)

from what I see on forums end play is measurable but certainly not visible ? No visible radial play but haven't measured yet...

Many thanks in advance,

Ross

Thta's excessive. Nominal endplay is 8 to 12 thou.

Unfortunately it means stripping the engine down and finding where the extra movement is coming from.

That end play is normal.....the .004-.012 is measurement it must fall in after you measure crank end play up and down. You shove crank down and measure(.050) then shove crank up and measure. Then subtract the two reading for each other and it should be in the .004-.12 range. Fix your carbs and go boating...

Yep, my mistake. Too long since I worked on those engines.
