What oil and how much are you mixing with the gasoline ??

I was mixing 50:1 tcw3 two stroke oil. In retrospect, probably should've went with 32:1 mixture. But i was reading that withe newer oil, higher ratio is good as well. Lesson learned.

Nope----That motor will outlast you at 50:1 mix as it the designated mix since 1964.------Time to remove the powerhead for a replacement.----NO special tools or skillls required.

You're right! The engine overheated again. Water was coming out through the tale tell fine, however, after removing the powerhead, I notice there was a lot of gunk/debree in the port near the exhaust. I dunno how it got there in the first place, but I'm surprise water was still coming out through the taletell. I think the construction there is the reason for bad flow and therefore resulted in engine overheating. I'm still debating if I want to invest more money into replacing the powerhead. Also, how do I remove this particular flywheel? There a bolt at the top, is that all?

Remove that nut.----Then use a puller with 3 bolts to pull the flywheel off.----Bolts will need to be 1/4-20 threads.-----Use no other means to get the flywheel off !!

Is there any chance the bearings in the power head failed? After removing the powerhead, if I shake it, I heard something moving inside. I'm sure that s not normal.

I've dismantled most of the outboard and learning a lot along the way. Definitely gaining much more confidence. I still haven't taken off the flywheel, need to purchase a puller for that and will take apart the crankcase to see what the loose piece I'm hearing. I don't know where to find the powerhead besides ebay.

Just out of curiosity. Looks to me like the flywheel ring gear (teeth ring) is only useful for electric start correct? I manage to bend the ring gear because i used the clamp puller instead of the bolt type puller. Stupid mistake. Yes i saw your post to only use the bolt type puller but the temptation of using the clamp type puller since i already have it.

?????-----I simply do not believe you would do that after the caution.----Good luck with the project.

I know! But I was improvising and I learned the hard way. :)

I removed the flywheel and ordered a used powerhead on fleebay. Crossing my fingers that it will solve my issue. But while I have this powerhead off, I'm thinkering to see what happened. I tried to split open the crankcase. Hopefully someone can learn from my mistake, but there are two bolts under the intake (where you install the carburetor) that needs to be removed. No wonder it was impossible to removed split the crankcase. I was cursing and wonder how anyone can even think of rebuilding this motor. I've seen people with blow torch and thought a blowtorch was necessary. :) With the two bolts removed, it was easy to split open. The top cylinder registered 0 psi, this is due to gouging on the piston and seized rings, the bottom cylinder registered 40 psi probably due to 1 stuck ring. The motor was seized however due to broken bearing holder and bearing falling apart. Its amazing how these outboard run with 1 bad piston or broken seized ring. But this is the reason why everyone is asking for compression numbers. The top cylinder registered 0 psi, this is due to gouging on the piston and seized rings, the bottom cylinder registered 40 psi probably due to 1 stuck ring. The motor was seized however due to broken bearing holder and bearing falling apart. It was very educational taking it apart. I have to give props to all those that rebuild their powerhead.
I'm now waiting for the baffle gasket, ( ebay seller sent me the wrong gasket.) and will install the used powerhead and make this motor run AGAIN.
