I guess the frigid temps a few weeks ago were one for the record books.Been winterizing water system same way for 20 years.Went into boat turnd on a heater as I do once a week pretty much all winter.Turned on water system pump and pink came out cold water side but not hot .Assumed the pink froze.Turned it on again when during 50 degreee heatwave and pink in the bilge.Original dark gray tubing going to need replacing.Anyone use some updated tubing for replacement?? I am assuming there has to be something better since this was installed in 1988.Charlie

x3 use PEX, and replace all of it.

That gray plastic plumbing is probably QEST, polybutylene ticking time bomb waiting to leak. Our neighborhood built in the late 80's was plumbed with QEST, and everyone has had leaks. The stuff rots from the inside out, class action law suit... I re-plumbed the entire house with PEX, after the 3rd or 4th leak.

If you have an air compressor get into the habit of disconnecting a few lines and blowing the system out for the winter w/air. That's how I do my Sundancer every fall &it works like a champ. Used the pink crap first year I had it, never again.

If the are just a few fittings involved and you don't plan on doing any more plumbing work, either on a boat or at home, Shark Bite fittings are the way to go, IMO.

I agree, those push-on fittings are nice. They are way more expensive than crimping on a fitting, but as you say, if you only have a few fittings to do, the push-on fittings are the way to go.
